Dang, that really bumps up the bolt thrust on that old rifle. Has this been researched for safety?

dont worry its fine..

See my edit. It looks like they operate at about the same cups. 53k for the .458. I'm seeing various answers for the 06, from 50k cups to 60k psi.

Given the same chamber pressure, the larger bore effectively increases the bolt thrust. (I know you already know that.)

It's a beautiful rifle, but I'd be afraid to shoot it with full house loads.

it would take about 1k of rounds through it before you see any peening of the engagement areas. And that many rounds through a big bore is A LOT of rounds.

CZ 550 416 Rigby.

I'd download it and use it for deer.

I don't need one.  And I probably will never buy one.  But it would be a superlative moose/bear rifle.

I'd like to hunt moose some day.

The Shiloh rifles fit and finish is beautiful.....the guy I shoot with has a model similar to the "Quig", set up for 'primitive rifle match shooting' in 45-70....lol lol, he has more tied up in tang discs and globes than I do in a 42X Nightforce, but watching him make 600yd hits with irons is pretty neat....

Sporting?.....probably have that covered for me....

416 Rigby necked to 458......can make brass out of higher pressure 338 Lapua Mag for some real brain shakers....

Suppressed or not.....

I had shoulder surgery a few year back so no 500gr bullets for me unless offhand. I load it with 300gr hollow points, might try a white tail with it this year. I wonder how big the exit hole will be?

A 30-06 is the "12 gauge" of rifles, it's all I really want or need

a hunting weight 30-06 and a colt 6920 are the only two rifles I own now

I've shot a lot of rifles in my life and I don't really get too excited about hard-kicking rifles with a lot of muzzle blast and expensive ammo ammo anymore

Yep, 30-06 is all you really need for any creature in North America. And a darn fine accurate round at that.

I want several of those old double-barrel safari guns in the huge game calibers...just because I think they're awesome, and I secretly want to shoot one while wearing a pith helmet and a monocle.

How about a Winchester '95 in 405 Winchester if you want to play dress-up.

I keep toying with the idea of a Rem 700 in .458 Win Mag and experimenting with some rounds based on .45 cal muzzle loader sabots.  Load for the 500 grain bullet and send a sabot round just screamin' downrange.  Or at least that's how it works in my mind.  And even if it doesn't, I'll have a .458 Win Mag handy for a hunting trip to Alaska a friend has been talking about.

I'd like something in 7mm Ultramag.

And of course, .458 Lott.

And .577 T-Rex.

I'm not saying I actually want to SHOOT any of those, though.   No more than I volunteer to get my shoulder caved in by any OTHER angry mule.

Of course I do consider .50 BMG to be a sporting cartridge, too,  so I'd have to include a Barrett M82A1 in the list.

AR-30 in .338 Lapua is all there is bro!

Only reason I don't own one is because I don't have anywhere to shoot the thing...on my own terms. That and the ammo is expensive!

It was Mark Westrom letting me shoot his at Gunstock in Waco back in 2003 that made me want one so bad. Just can't justify it.

So have you seen the video on YouTube from accurate-reloading.com where the forum owner, Saeed, let's people shoot his .577 T-Rex? I'll bet you have.

I have a .458 Lott in a CZ 550 and I think that's the biggest gun I ever need to shoot.

It shoots the one on the left (.458 Lott) or the one on the right (.458 Win Mag);

I have shot a 375 H&H - brutal.
I own a 50BMG (AR upper) also not so fun to shoot.
I also own a 45-70 Marlin, as well as a 45-70 BPCR and a 45-90 BPCR, the BPCR's are fun to shoot so is the Marlin unless it's loaded with my Elmer Keith hunting loads (they hurt).

.338 Win in a bolt action sporter is as much as I'd need on this continent, and as much power as I feel like shooting in a rifle I'd carry all day. I don't have the money to go to Africa for dangerous game, and if I did have the money, I'd use it to buy more hunting land here in the US. In all reality though, a 30/06 tackles 99% of what I'd ever shoot at, so realistically I doubt I'll buy anything bigger than the 30/06 and 7mmRM that I already own.
