I go to a Mexican restuarant afer going to the range shooting on Saturdays with a friend.

I tried to get something different every time but eventually ran out of menu items.

I like the fajitas, usually steak. Can't remember what the other one I get most often is called but the picture on the menu looks good.

This has become one my new favorites. There's a Mexican restaurant near my work that make Tortas that are ridiculously good and YUGE. But it also depends where I'm at. I love blackened Mahi tacos when I'm on the coast. And street tacos from a LEGIT Mexican joint (not a chain-y tex-mex type place) are amazing for as simple as they are. Really, I like about any good Mexican fare.

Fajitas for me upon my first visit.

If you can’t do that well, you’re not going to do the other stuff well.

I have my dishes for Italian, sushi and Chinese and it’s the same deal.

Right with you. There is only one place around here for them, but they make them from scratch,  traditionally  and they are so good.

Tamales, same way, only at a different place. They actually grind the masa from hominy in house. I always By a 2 pound stack of their tortillas to go for 4 bucks. There is no comparison with store bought tortillas. None.

Is that like a little masa dumpling noodle, in the first dish.

Every one of those look delicious.

yeah, pretty much. Chochoyotes are pure poverty food in central/pacific mexico and has little tweaks depending on region. Mix up your masa, add in some cilantro and green onions or other herbs you like, you want it a little wetter than you would for tortillas so up the fat/lard more than usual. Roll into small balls and push a thumbprint so they cook evenly in the center. Those get tossed into your broth (red with chilie peppers green with tomatillos and poblanos) with meat, beans, and whatever veggies you want, and as they cook they thicken up the broth from the masa that gets cooked off. Its delicious.

At a hole in the wall type place near my house usually I order a carnitas chimichanga- all meat, topped with pork and green chili and melted cheese.

At another place in town i usually order a stuffed sopapilla filled with green chili pork and topped with melted cheese.

There's another place I go for tacos or a burrito al pastor.

There's yet another place I frequent where it's either a carne asada burrito with guac, sour cream and +/- french fries, or chicken tacos -fried shell, or carne asada fries, or carnitas torta.

I guess I have a lot of favorites.

At a new place, I first judge them based on the chips and salsa.    Usually I will order something pretty standard like a beef taco/cheese enchilada with beans and rice.  If they can't get the basics right, then they aren't likely to get other things right either.

I wish I was back home. Currently residing in DFW.
Right up the street from my buddies place, Mama's Pizzeria.

I'll definitely look up Pepe's next time I'm down, thanks.

Beef enchiladas topped with oven baked melted muenster cheese, rice and beans.  With a large group, a Botana for starters to share.

Xochimilco's, (So-She-meeko's) in Detroit, is the best.
