It varies, but currently?

This 3-digit Colt 1911 from the first Navy shipment in March 1912! It has all my attention while I'm researching the two different Lt Commanders who had it from pre-WWI through the 1990s. This pistol is the subject of an extended length article I'm writing (like the Tuskegee one).

The first LT served in the Naval Militia starting in 1909. He was commissioned Ensign in 1917 and served on the USS Georgia during WWI. After the war he headed the 19th Fleet Division (out of Hartford, CT)  and then later during WWII he oversaw the machinist/repair department of the Brooklyn Naval Yard.  The second Lt Cmdr joined the 19th Fleet under the first Lt Cmdr in the early 1930s, then served on subs during WWII. He received his commission after the war, staying on in the Navy until retiring in 1961 from the first Naval District.

I’ve got one of the Colt IAR squad automatic uppers brand new in the plastic bag.  Colt only ever sold 100 of them to the public.  Maybe one day I will get an M16 lower to go with it.

6720.  Bought one in 2018 and one in 2019.  One I shoot; one I never shoot.  Colt doesn't make it anymore.  To my knowledge you can't even buy the upper or the barrel.  It's basically a 6920 but with the pencil barrel.  I had the carry handle and skinny handguards on mine for a while.  Both are now back to their original configuration (see poster) with a red dot.  Note they are marked AR15A4, which now applies to the full 20" rifle.

I’ve got 2 WWII 1911’s, polished stainless GCNM, XSE and in total 9 Colt handguns. No AR’s.
But my favorite of all is the one my son bought for me when his unit went to Afghanistan and they ordered tour guns.

I own a Colt Thompson 1921AC and an M16A2. I also have a late production, all original, Government Model 1911 produced early in 1919, 1908 pocket pistol and a 2nd gen SAA, 1st gen Det.Spl. and some other specimens. I am NOT a Colt fanboi and never intended to be a Colt collector. I just ended up with some really neat guns.

Detective Special that dates to 1944.  Letters to the OSS.

Official Police with six inch heavy barrel issued to the Iowa Ordnance Plant.  One of 300.  The heavy barrel was from the Officer's Model Match, Colt was using up parts at the start of WW2.

Tough call.

Dad's Detective Specials due to the family connection and stories:

Or a 1943 Colt due to its nifty local provenance:
