M9a3 or a gen 3 Glock 9mm. Parts and mags would be everywhere.

Glock 17, or 45, with the 33rd fun sticks.
Of course it's just a pistol... when SHTF I will be armed with a suppressed 5.56mm rifle anyways. The pistol is just tagging along at that point. |
Grand Power K100 9mm.
If we're on a long enough timeline that factory ammo is becoming scarce, maybe a .44 Mag or .45 Colt DA revolver so I could run black powder and cast bullet reloads? |
Glock 19. The entire reason for a handgun is to be light and concealable, so why add weight and bulk while getting basically nothing in return?
Whatever is laying around will be fine until I can get a rifle.

HK USP's/P30 can reliably function as a club when empty, they are most definetly tough enough to be SHTF pistols.
...I'd probably go with a G17. |

Quoted: .45 M1911. View Quote This. Custom Colt Government 1911 in .45 ACP. So many thousands of rounds through it, many training classes, many hours of training/practice. All of my best gear supports it. Of all my handguns, it’s just what I shoot best and has been totally reliable for many years. |

At least one of each major brand so mags have compatibility when you liberate from communists who no longer need them.
FNX-45 Tactical for SHTF.
For TEOTWAWKI, however, I'd probably go with my M9, since 9mm would be easier to come by. Not that I'd be counting on that, though; naturally I have a stash of my own on hand. |

My Glock G17 Gen5.
I shoot it a lot in Glock GSSF matches so I am more than familiar with it and competent with it. Boringly reliable, boringly ordinary and boringly practical. It works, and works and works. |
Primary would be the SIG P226 in 9mm although the Glock G17/G19 in 9mm would be a close second due to the huge amount of and the cheapness of the mags.

1911
Parents bought me it when I was 18. Former range gun $200. I can shoot it better than anything else, so it's a no-brainer. |
Suppressed ruger 22/45 with a few thousand rounds. At the same weight as your 1911 or G19 with a 100 rounds.
At this moment 92x. A .357 mag revolver has good merit though. Hard to lose or damage the cylinder and .357 is no slouch.

How do you like the Dawson comp? Reviews seem mixed. To answer the question - Probably G17. My Staccato is more accurate, but I doubt it will retain reliability in the elements the way that the Glock would. Plus, I have a ton of mags that fit the 17 of different capacities. Second choice would be my fullsize 5" PDP. |
I want to say my staccato c2, but would probably go with my walther p99 or canik. I can easily mod a lot of mags to work with the p99 or canik, basically any sig 22x 9mm, beretta 92, and a bunch other mags will work with a new mag catch slot.
Glock 17, but honestly probably my G19 which isn’t a ‘full size,’ per se.
I have a P226, 229 and M&P. I’d be happy with any if those, but the Glocks are stupid reliable and serviceable. |
I would grab my glock 34 with red dot and x300 for open carry battle setup and my crate of mags and ammo. I would throw in my glock 26 also for a backup/concealed option. But I would also grab my beretta 92a1 because I love it so much on a sentimental level and I shoot it very well. But the glocks would be better for the odds of finding more mags and stuff along the way. Obviously a rifle is better on a survive the apocalyptic world situation but if following the rules of this thread I gave my answer.

Depends on the SHTF.
Weather related hurricane with winds, flooding, looters, power outages, disrupting typical life for a month or 3? Good old rust bucking Glock 19 with a TLR for bumps in the night. If I have to use it and it becomes held in the evidence locker for a year, no worry about it being neglected. Full blown war type happenings? M9A3. Way better than the plain Jane issued M9 I carried in previous wars. Some post apocalyptic plague wipes out most people and I can roam wide hunting wild game and most people left are still somewhat civil? MR73 357 magnum. Carries well, shoots great, decent on medium game, supremely accurate, empty brass goes in my hand for reloading. |
