Who gives a rats ass what it looks like? It is winter get a coat that is warm. My winter coat is over 20 yrs old and is still gtg.
Wisconsin is a lot colder than NC |

When it’s really cold and/or I’m working/hunting I wear a Sherpa lined hooded Carhartt coat.
If I’m not working I love my Patagonia nano puff. Super lightweight and thin. Good from about 60 degrees all the way down into the 20s. Works great as a layer too. |
|
T shirt or long johns depending temperature and activity.
Flannel shirt Quilted lined flannel shirt Carhartt blanket lined jacket Has worked for me if you are actively working down to about 0. If below 0 and inactive you will need more. |

I picked up a German flecktarn jacket a couple of years ago. It's the most comfortable jacket I own. I wear it most of the time as is. If the temperature drops much below freezing I put on a hoodie under it. It's been working well for me.

Snap On gave me a winter coat a few years ago that is sweltering unless it is -10 with -30+ wind chills.
It is amazing on those days your outside for the whole day. Otherwise, Aramark parka handles similar Temps for about $80. |

I have a few. But mostly a Filson Mackinaw Cruiser and a M65 with liner lately.
|

|
Warmest coat I currently own is an M65 Field Jacket with quilted liner. Better than my Carhart. Our high is right at freezing today with lows in the teens.

I have the 5.11 Tactical 3-in-1 parka. The one I have is the 1st version, not the 2.0; but they're close in design. The outer shell has decent waterproof ability and blocks the wind pretty well. The inner part is fleece and is pretty warm on its own. If I wear it, I usually just wear the inner part as it keeps me warm enough in temps down in the teens. If I'm in temps that low with wind, I'll attach the parka for an extra level of protection. The parka part also has a hood, but it's rather thin so I never use it. I also keep a fleece beanie and some gloves in the pockets, just in case.
I also have a camouflage jacket with a hood that I'll wear every now and then. It's not overly thick, but keeps me warm in temps down in the 30s. It has decent wind-breaking ability, but is by no means waterproof. It has a pretty big hood, which I like as it will actually keep your head warm. And it has big-ass pockets that are easy to get your hands into if you're wearing gloves. The other one I regularly wear is my Carhartt hoodie. It's a Rain Defender that is damn good at keeping me warm. It holds in the heat really well. It's a pullover style with a small zipper towards the top (I hate full-zip hoodies). The front pocket is pretty big and has a smaller pocket inside that is perfect to hold my phone. I've worn it in temps down in the teens and been plenty warm. I've worn it in rain and it kept me dry. So I'll rotate between those 3. I have other jackets, but I hardly ever wear them. |

I've been wearing a Stormcraft jacket by Outdoor Research. It's awesome, half the time I've worn it snowblowing the drive I have to have it half unzipped because it's overkill.
I kind of wish I'd gone with their Allies Colossus jacket from their Pro line, but I didn't even know about their pro line when I ordered the other jacket. |

My favorite is a Massif, but it is more of a jacket or soft shell than a proper coat.
|
|
I used to have an actual heavy winter jacket, but that thing is long gone.
These days I just wear my Alpha Industries leather MA-1. |
|
Chicago too

Depends on what I’m doing but;
Filson Mackinaw Cruiser Duluth AKHG Jacket Columbia Omni Heat Jacket |

My favorite has lasted over 12 years of harsh weather and lots of activity, still like brand new. High quality and reasonable pricing, lasts a life time. |

I live in the southwest...so a hoodie...and a beanie on the worst days...never lower that 30-35f

If I'm out in single digits or colder its all about the layering
Base layer, with a waffle pattern long john over that Next layer a boreal wool top from Lester River Bushcraft https://lrbushcraft.com/ with a snowshoe hare anorak pullover shell from Empire Wool and Canvas https://empirecanvasworks.com/product/snowshoe-hare-pullover/ and a ruff from Boundary Fur https://www.boundaryfursewing.com/ Nice and toasty warm |

I have several coats and it depends on what I am doing and the weather.
Most of them are Arc'Teryx and Outdoor Research. |
|
I have five hooks full of outside wear depending on the weather.
I have set-ups for everything from cutting wood to watching the winterfest parade. |
|
JC Pennys St. John’s Bay coat I’ve been wearing for 20 years. Looks rough but I like it.

Depends on the activity. I have a north face coat with a zip out liner for winter time sports. For hunting I tend to layer a puffy with a soft shell. I noticed this year at about 12ish I was warm enough I could probably have slept in my layers. I feel like I finally have it figured out. I will say- for late season hunts where I'm not going to hike all day- I have a cabelas wool coat that's worth two layers at least in warmth.

Two years ago, I went into the local farm store to grab something random, walked past a closeout rack with a bunch of Carhartt jackets on it. Big jumbo lined thick hooded jacked, marked down to $25ish. I was like WTF, checked a couple. Found one that fit went up front, the checker didn't believe the price called for a price check twice. I left with a jacket; still don't remember why I went there.

|
This year I went to a thermal jacket from Outdoor Research, and if it gets really cold, I put an Anorak on top of it from Wintergreen.
|
|
I get through most winters with a Rothco M65. The number of sweatshirts under it is more important.
|
|
My primary is a Columbia 3-in-1. The shell is wearing out but I will keep it until it does. For really cold weather. I have an Eddie Bauer Down coat that I can wear.
|
|
For cold weather I use a LL Bean Rugged Ridge Parka. Otherwise, usually a softshell is sufficient here.

I have a bunch of different coats but if I’m in something teens or below a Mamut Goose Down is my go to. If wet then cover with a Arcteryx shell.

Walls Mingus hooded and lined coat. I have a bunch of great coats for winter but when it the worst I wear this one.
