Say we were able to drill a 5 ft hole to the center of the earth.
What would happen? Would whats evers in the core of the earth spew out? Or would it be more like a vacuum, sucking up whatever comes within 200ft of said 5ft hole? Or maybe something else would happen? What would happen? |

Liquid Hot MAGMA! |

The hole would seal back up almost immediately unless you happened to hit high pressure magma, then volcano I guess.
Density being a thing and all. |

Look up the "Kola Well". The Russians drilled 23000 feet on the Kola Peninsula.

You’d reach the home of the lizard people who would now be able to use your hole as a new portal instead of Antarctica.

There are dinosaurs down there. I saw it in a movie. I think they keep dying and their remains bubble up to the surface as oil. That's why we aren't running out of oil.

Fire Zombie Illegal Aliens would crawl out and immediately begin voting Democrat.

I feel like GD had a party tonight with some really good drugs.
But no one invited me. |

Whatever you do, please don’t dig a hole 5 feet in diameter, more than 10 feet deep.

Noted this on the wiki on the "kola well":
I note that Russia put their hole way out in BF Siberia. We put ours basically in Mexico. Smart, because if stuff goes sideways... |

View Quote Currently I think we're at around 8 miles deep. Then bits melt, machines fail, and it becomes cost prohibitive. Scientifically we call the earths layers the core, mantle, and crust. There are "thinner" parts of the crust, where we see direct evidence of what happens when liquid rock of earths mantle breaks through its crust. Look at a map of the Islands of Hawaii, and all the atols. The thin crust moves over a hot spot, and Islands are born. |

Drilling to the core-mantle boundary, you should generate your own mantle plume of hot magma boiling up to the surface. The Soviet deep borehole went about 7 miles into the crust which is roughly 1/3 of the way to the crust-mantle boundary. Then it's another 1750 miles through the mantle to the core.

the drill would melt well before you got anywhere close the the center. the earths core is hot enough that the metals are melted.
