You would need to lower fishing line with life savers on the end to see if there was water at the bottom. Possibly lower a goat into the hole see if it lives or if a telepathic seal creature emerges.

If the hole went straight through the earth and you jumped in, you would be free falling back and forth till settling in the center.
I'm guessing it would be a solid 3 days of free fall. |

Incorrect - unless the tunnel was drilled precisely down the earth's spin axis, rotational forces would smack you against the hypothetical tunnel walls, slowing you down very quickly, overall. I doubt you'd make one full pass. |
