Im in my early 30’s, I’m single, no kids, do what I want, buy what I want and travel to different countries to experience their culture (and women) so marriage and kids ain’t in my near future

Thats a different timeline I've never visited, but I'm assuming that my life would have been drastically different, as my career choices were heavily influenced by my marriage and having kids

Can't even picture it.  Call it sad if you want to but when I was a kid, literally the ONLY thing I wanted out of life was to be in a truly loving marriage and have kids.

Because I have that I'm able to find joy in other things outside of it but if I wasn't able to have that, I couldn't find joy at all.

I'm glad human beings are adaptable to situations and that we don't all need (or want) the exact same things in order to flourish.  But I know what my needs are.

Probably mining gold in Kenya if I was still alive.  More likely killed in some African nowhere. Funny how meeting a woman can change the course of your life. No regrets.

I would probably be a ski bum, a climbing bum, or a kayak bum.  Maybe would have pursued mountaineering.  Still have a motorcycle.  Probably be in and out of a bunch of bands.  Probably wouldn't be on this forum or even own a gun.  I grew up without guns and didn't buy my first until my 1st son was born and I realized I was at a point where I had "nothing to prove and everything to protect."

HAVING SAID THAT...

Anything I have given up, I have received more in return.  I have a faithful partner that has my back no matter what.  I'm blessed with 3 kids and I get the privilege of showing them this world.  If I ever do wander down that dangerous "what if" road, I remember the first time my son saw lightning bugs (or fireflies you yanks).  Or the time my son and I were snorkeling in the keys and he found a giant lobster and lost his mind in excitement.  Or the time my daughter caught a shark in the gulf and was so proud and ran off to show all the other kids on the beach.  Or the time I took my son skiing and he fell in love with downhill.  Or my daughter on drums (6 yrs old) and me on bass playing seven nation army.  Or the time I broke my tib and fib and I was stuck in a wheelchair and my wife took care of EVERYTHING.  Most importantly, I remember my grandparents on Christmas 2017, sitting together holding hands surrounded by a giant family they had created through their faithfulness. That's what I want as my life wraps down.

We always want what we don't have.  Be careful.

I'd be living in a tiny home waaaaaaaay out on the prairie, at the corner of No and Where instead of in the city.

I'd be at a loss as to what to do with all my free time...time saved by knowing EXACTLY where everything was at all times...because nobody 'moved it and forgot to tell you', 'straightened things up for you', 'got rid of old junk', 'I never touched it...oh, wait.."

I'd probably still be living in Alabama in my parent's house(both gone......miss you guys), still have my milsurp collection, and shooting them off the back porch.

Retiring early.

There are trade-offs to everything I guess.  My kids are actually the best part of my life now so I'm glad I have them.

That's easy.

Just paid off credit card, paying around 50% extra towards my mortgage, 3 mustangs in the garage, playing with CAD/CAM while trying to figure out if I want to buy a Tormach after my 66 mustang project is completed.

Not terribly concerned about gas prices because I have no ex-wife, child care, college tuition shit to worry about.

Going to crush availablr overtime for the next couple years with 40-60 hours per pay period to buy what I can while I can.

Hope to leave my job at 51-52 so I got 6-7 years to pay off house and get into something like CNC work for future projects and side money.

Couple years beyond the break up with the exgf and I really dont know that I have it in me to tolerate female bullshit ever again.  Dont even want to invest time or poke around out of fear of a trap or some kind of manipulative shit.

Lived on my own far too long to consider changing.

Who knows?  My family is a big motivator for my career but on the other side of the equation I have cut way back on travel to spend time with the kids as they grew up.

So either I could be a bum or CEO.   Either way I am sure I would drink too much and have a less full life.

Tough to say....
Probably traveling more.  I guess I would have a GF (or two).    Never married is different than being single.

Hard to imagine my life without a wife and kids since so much of my life has been built around a wife and kids.

Been asking this ever since I was about 30, and I'm now 45.
I feel too old to really start doing anything other than the work, sleep, eat routine that I've done forever.
Got enough money (for now) to buy a motorcycle, boat, sportscar, a little bit of hunting land, etc but not enough just to say fuck it and just go on walkabout.
If I had the same money and brains in my 20's, I would probably look into Rural Alaska, the Ozarks, or Appalachians and set up roots.
