Well, I'm going from a standard "healthy" American diet of brown rice, lean meats, fruits and veggies, etc. straight into this Carnivore diet thing.
Today the only vegetables I've had was a quarter an Onion and Half a red bell pepper. The rest was Steak, Eggs and Salmon Eggs. So I'm not sure if that counts as "easing" my way into it. If I feel fine the next two days of doing this, I will probably go full Carnivore by eliminating all plant based items and increase my fats substantially. But we'll see. The idea of eating zero vegetables/plant based foods is kinda terrifying, tbh. My friends think this is insane. And I'm someone who typically eats a lot of meat. Edit: By the way, it's my first day doing this and I feel ever so slightly light headed tonight. Is this normal? |

Might need to add more salt. 1 gram of carbs holds 4 grams of water with it. The salt will help with fluid retention. If you’re low on sodium, you may end up having your fingers swell a little bit. An early sign of hyponatremia. |

Right now I'm eating some ground beef and eggs that I sauteed in a skillet, with some seasoning salt.
It's strange, it tastes like pork or sausage. Is this normal? Did the butcher give me ground pork instead of beef? >:( Maybe it's the seasoning, idk. There is no pork in it the seasoning though. I asked for grass fed ground beef as it is very high in protein and Omega 3. Maybe my taste buds are acting funny? I had a glass of water last night, and it tasted strange. |

View Quote Everybody gets too hung up on the specifics. Eat real food that you've prepared yourself, from whole ingredients. Doneski. In your case (because carnivore), that means eat a wide variety of animals and try to eat as much of each animal as you can. The "problems" work themselves out. Mother Nature is pretty clever. Worry about tweaking the finer details for optimum performance/whatever and nerding out on the biomechanics and what-the-fuck-ever after it's become part of your daily routine for a few months. |

Quoted: These days (note: I'm not eating straight carnivore and have no desire to, but it still applies - think Venn Diagram, and learn from all the various "diets") I cook my protein sous vide. I work from home which makes this easier, but I'll tend to throw my protein in the water bath around 4:00pm. It's ready by 5:00pm, were I to pull it out and eat it immediately. 5:30pm if it went in the bath frozen straight out of the freezer. If I was still going into an office every day, my wife would do it (she's always been a stay at home mom). If both of us went into an office everyday, I'd figure out a system, any system, that worked and make it happen. The advantage here - especially on a weekday, is really one of timing. While it's possible to overcook your meat (fish is even easier), you really have to leave it in there for several hours longer than necessary to fuck it up. And it takes all of the skill out of it - your protein is always at the perfect temperature. This is especially nice when I'm cooking an expensive fish. I was always about 50/50 on the end result, and nothing pisses me off more than not absolutely nailing something I paid $20/lb for. Sous vide more or less idiot proofs that for me. You just need to put a sear on it for some color and flavor (easy peasy). Use a skilet, your grill, hell - just fire up some lump coals in a chimney with a grate on top (my favorite for steaks). So what it does, if give you some time. In my case, when my circulator beeps at me to let me know it's done, if affords me the opportunity to start warming up the skillet (for searing and any veggie cooking I'll be doing), prepping all the veggies and whatever else I'm eating on the side, etc. I spend no more than 45 minutes to an hour in the kitchen each day actively doing something. Dinner is on by 6-ish. I'll eat as many as 4 eggs in a day (and not every day), and don't personally have any trouble with them. I feel like if I was eating 8 of them, it would be because I didn't have anything else to eat and I was trying to make up for it by just doubling down on eggs (fast and cheap). The thing is, I always have a fridge and freezer stocked with stuff to eat, and I deliberately schedule my weekdays to make sure I have an hour available to prepare it. As far as I know (I haven't studied any of this at length), people with egg allergies are mostly reacting to the types of proteins found in the egg whites. And given that, as far as I know, food allergies are really just an immune response to something perceived by your body as harmful for whatever reason, it might be said that "the dose makes the poison". So then, given that it's probably the types of protein found in the whites that cause you discomfort, and that in your case it's probably the amount of it you're eating that finally triggers a response, and given that - as near as I can tell - most of the nutritive good stuff is found in the egg yolk and not the white, you might try just eating the yolks if you're going to be eating a lot of eggs. Maybe have a couple of eggs (which you seem to tolerate just fine), and then for the other 4-6 you feel like eating - ditch the whites. See how that goes. View Quote thanks for the info. I might have to get a Sous Vide. kind of what I was thinking with the eggs. I know Shawn Baker has been on a yoke only kick lately. i should try that. |

OK. This post caused me to research carnivore for the past couple of days. I need to lose weight and get off depression meds. So........I started today with what I had on hand. Ill head to the butcher tomorrow.
Breakfast: 3 eggs scrambled 3 slices bacon. Lunch: 2 1/2 lb beef patties topped with a fried egg and a slice of sharp cheddar. Dinner: A carton of organic chicken bone broth with pan fried boneless chicken thighs as a soup. I used the rendered bacon fat from breakfast to fry the thighs and poured the whole thing into the broth. |

I will say this. If you’re eating grass fed beef for the first time, it will probably taste different than the regular stuff you’d buy in a pack.
I’ve heard of people saying it tasted a little fishy. Grass and corn are broken down and stored differently. |

Last year I did dirty Keto for 4-5 months, and transitioned into carnivore. We have dairy cattle, so I still consumed milk, cheese, etc. We also have chickens/ducks, so we ate lots of eggs too.
I lost 35 pounds, and when I went carnivore, I noticed that while my weight didn't change much, my body was changing. Seemed like my waist was getting smaller, while my arms/chest/etc. were getting larger. I was also lifting a few times a week, just bench, squats, and deadlifts. I saw good gains when doing carnivore. Then, some major crap went down at work and I started stress eating sugar and bread (donuts, pizza, etc.). Have been eating like crap since, and gained 25 pounds of fat back. I plan to do a keto/carnivore "diet" again at some point. My problem is I'm addicted to sugar! LOL |

So I went into an Asian market today and bought my first fish! A whole mackerel. It looked like it came straight from the sea, had it's full body, face, eyes and everything. I watched a tutorial on how to filet them on youtube and then proceeded to try it on my kitchen counter. Cutting the filets off seemed to go pretty well. Although I think should have kept the knife blade flatter and more horizontal to the bone. But once the filets were off, I had a hard time doing the V cut to remove the spine bones. I kinda butchered it a little bit, but it still mostly looks good. I threw both filets onto a skillet, skin first, then flipped after 3 mins. Now they're on my dinner plate waiting to cool. I did have a little nibble of the skin, and MAN that tastes good!
EDIT/UPDATE: Just ate them, and they were good, even though not pretty! Very oily fish, which is good since I need more fat macros. I might practice on one more fish before I demonstrate my newfound culinary skills to my gf! lol. |

View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: No matter what the diet is, this is what everybody (well...most everybody) ends up doing after a while. My strategy to combat this, is to not purchase that stuff. Ever. For the first two months, I had to live with a wife who wasn't 100% on board with eating the way I do. I have a lot of willpower once I decide I'm "all-in" on something, but I don't particularly enjoy having to prove it all the time. It's mentally exhausting. One of my many "hacks" is just plain not having any crap in the house. At all. We threw it all out, once my wife got on board. The only "willpower" required now, is to not buy the shit at the store. It's...not that hard. Literally don't pick it up off the shelf. And if you eat the way I do (more so with you), you won't be going down most of the aisles in the grocery store anyway. 95% of what you need is in the produce section (me), the meat counter (both of us), and a quick stop by the dairy case (both of us I think, but a bit more me than you, I'd guess). For the other 5%, I make a side trip down an inner aisle for olive oil, various vinegars, salt, pepper, and various spices when I run low. Sometimes I'll grab some canned tuna, oysters and sardines (packed in water only - fuck vegetable oils in the ass with a stolen dick). There's nothing for me in the bread, cereal, snack, freezer, pasta, baking, sauces, etc aisles - so I don't even go down them. That same hack taken to beast mode? These days, Instacart brings me everything I ask them to, within 2-3 hours of me asking for it. $99/yr, and the delivery (and almost all of the service) fees are waved. I use the ever loving shit out of it. It basically costs me 10% more than going to the store, because of the tip. Worth. Every. Penny. It's even easier to avoid bullshit foods, when they're not right there in front of you. And you're not going to destroy your health, if somebody at the office orders pizza for a meeting or whatever. This is even easier for me, because I'm generally not hungry at lunch anyway (a welcome bonus owed to the way I eat, that just happens on its own in my case). But if I have a couple few slices of pizza one in a blue moon...it's fine. I never buy it, so there isn't any in my house, and I damn sure haven't paid anybody to bring it to me. Which means that 99% of the time, I'm eating pretty damned healthy...which is what matters - what you did over time, not what you did two seconds ago. If I'm at a BBQ and somebody's wife brought a bomb-ass baked mac & cheese...I'm eating it, and letting her know how delicious it is. Who cares? I'm not invited to BBQs 7 days a week... |

Quoted: Fad diets are fucking stupid. Just stop eating so damned much. It isn't that hard. View Quote Lean people don't have epic levels of willpower. They're simply not as hungry, as often. That's why it isn't hard. (Pro-tip: You can eat in a way that keeps you from feeling so God damned hungry all the time, thus making you eat fewer calories, thus enabling your body to use all of that stored fat on board for energy. People that have been lean their entire life do this, whether they realize it or not). While I don't do it myself, a carnivore diet seems perfectly healthy. If it helps somebody lose weight and not feel hungry as shit while doing it, all the better. If they get tired of it (and I'm sure most will eventually - I sure as shit would), they just need to introduce healthy food back in, little by little, pay close attention to how they look, feel, weigh, etc, and keep making incremental adjustments as needed until they figure out what works for them for the rest of their life. But simply telling somebody to "stop eating so damned much" isn't all that useful. It's technically true, but it doesn't mean anything and it's not all that actionable. It's like me saying "The reason this crowded room has so many people in it, is because more people have entered than have left". Well no shit, Sherlock. Mind telling us why this many people are so hell-bent on coming in, and not wanting to leave? |

Quoted: I'm in IT (it sounds like you are as well?), and I know the feeling. I had quit smoking cold turkey for 3 months (hardest thing I had ever done, up until that point...fucking brutal). Then...some shit went sideways at work, and I was up for 2 days straight unfucking it. In a moment of weakness, I bummed a cigarette. That pretty much destroyed 3 months of effort in 3 minutes. I ended up buying a pack eventually (seeing a pattern? ), and...that was that. I got better (I quit smoking in July 2019). View Quote Good to hear you're human too Yes, IT as well. I assumed you were by your username. Good deal on being smoke free for 1+ now. I used to smoke also, only time I want one bad is when I'm a few bourbons/beers deep. I still partake when I'm with friends that smoke, but I don't have any issues with wanting to start up daily again. |

Quoted: Fad diets are fucking stupid. Just stop eating so damned much. It isn't that hard. View Quote I agree on the fad diets, but not all food is equal. 2,000 calories of sandwiches and chips is not gonna take you as far as 2,000 calories of steak. A person can generally eat a 1K cal meal consisting of mostly carbs and be snacking again in a couple of hours and hungry as a horse in 4-5 hours as the carbs wear off. Eat 1K cal of little to no carbs and you’ll have some brief hunger pangs a few hours later and when that subsides, you’ll feel fine for the rest of the day. When people crash on carbs it literally feels like you’re starving to death RFN and will be just about in a panic to eat as much as you can of whatever is available. Not everyone is like that. My wife can eat a little oatmeal and a banana and be good to go all day. Me? I’m fuckin’ dyin’ a hour or so later and by lunch I can’t think straight I’m so hungry. If I skip breakfast and just eat something low carb for lunch I feel fine all day. |

Welp, just woke up. Made clams for the first time in my life last night. That was SOOOO good. I'm definitely adding shell fish to my regular diet, like forever. I've completed day 2 of my carnivore diet, and I don't feel bad at all. No diarrhea or anything. When does this supposed "keto flu" kick in? I've been dreading it, but I havn't experienced anything aside from less frequent and smaller bowel movements. Might have to go pick up some metamucil or something. But no sickness, no lethargy, headaches or whatever else. Am I doing something wrong? I'm not eating any plant based foods. I do admit, I had a craving for some gatorade yesterday while at the market, but I havn't had any.

My biggest complaint during carnivore was that I seemed to go very little. My routine of going after coffee went away also. My wife said it was because my body was actually using more of what I was eating. I think the fact that we consume fresh dairy helped with the stool consistency. |

I don't consume much dairy. Maybe some cheese once in a blue moon or some Greek Yogurt. I wonder if a fiber supplement would be okay. After all, most of it is insoluble fiber that just passes through you.
