Revenues.
Black and Whites stick out like a sore thumb. People stay in tard mode longer when the blue challenger is just cruising along unassumingly. We have a half dozen sneaky low pro ticket writing cars and a bunch of black/white,SUV's for doing police work. |

A few years ago the fed Gov supposedly would give a shit ton of grant money to buy new vehicles and equipment if they were painted black and white
Something about being easily recognizable that it was law enforcement. We didnt do it and were just stuck with shit equipment and rides lol. |

Since we are on the subject the North Dakota Troopers recently started running black cruisers. They had been white forever. Of course all the expert traffic safety citizens here made a fuss about them being less visible at night. Guess they can’t see the invisible blinding led lights.

The vast majority around here are, PD and CHP. Always have been. There are a few "stealth" cars white with white lettering, but most all patrol cars are black and white.

In Florida green and white are the official colors for Sheriffs.
30.46 Sheriffs; motor vehicles color combination; badges; simulation prohibited; penalties.— (1) The color combination of forest green and white is adopted as the official color for use on the motor vehicles and motorcycles used by the various sheriffs of Florida and their deputies. (2) For purposes of uniformity and in aid of the recognition of their official identity by the public, a badge in the shape of a five-pointed star with a replica of the great seal of Florida with the map of Florida superimposed thereon inscribed in the center is designated as the official badge to be worn by the sheriffs and deputy sheriffs of all counties of the state. (3) It shall be unlawful for any person other than the sheriffs of Florida and their deputies, to color or cause to be colored any motor vehicle or motorcycle the same or similar color combination prescribed herein; provided, however, that any municipal police department or other law enforcement agency or any private person or concern using the same or similar color combination as of the date of this act shall be permitted to continue to use such colors until such time as new colors are adopted by such agencies, or private person or concern. Around here all the LE have plain white cars or trucks. Other departments I've seen have vehicles that are colored so they blend right in.

I don’t ever remember MA State Police cars being black and white. They’ve been blue since I was a kid in the early 70’s. VT State Police cars have always been green.

My understanding is that in the 1990's as the 'Community Policing' push happened, they began doing away with the black and white schemes and going to the colorful stickers for the 'community friendly' look.
My department switched back to black and white maybe around the '07 time frame. We were the second department in my county to do so and the rest weren't far behind. -K |
