The ISLAND should have been called San Juan The PORT should have been called Puerto Rico (literally rich port) Some guy messed them up but literally no one cares so now we have an island where still no one cares

When me and my wife got married (90’s) we flew to Puerto Rico to go on a cruise. On the drive
from the airport to the cruise ship I saw some buildings with bars on the windows going up to the third floor. I told my wife that I had not even seen that in Memphis. |

Because it a colony of the USA, just like guam, US virgin Islands etc. And its most likely going to be the 51st state someday.
Besides boricua chicks are hot, they get social security cards from and pay tax to uncle sugar just like any other US citizens. Only thing they can't do is vote for the US president or congressmen. Fuckmefunny, they were made citizens of the USA before the indigenous tribes were, we didn't get to be citizens of the good old USA until the indian reorganization act of 1934, course we got the dawes roles, tribal designation, cdib cards, uncle sugar made all the treaties so couldn't keep on with genocide, so they done the indian reorganization act of 1934 with the thoughts to breed the tribal blood out of the tribes so once they're less than a 1/4 blood we would be considered of indian decent. Which is still genocide of a people, by taking away their language, heritage, beliefs, religion etc. And integrating them and their offspring by generations into your society. |

Puerto Rico is a dump outside of the rich white affluent areas. We have a family vacation home on the beach in Rincon inside a gated mini city with guards. The locals are not allowed inside our mini city only the rich American land owners. It's pretty crazy that outside the gates it's one big dump of an island. Sure there are a few parts of San Juan that are nice, but most of San Juan (and PR at large) is a 3rd world shit hole on par with any random town in mexico.
That, and Puerto Ricans in general are pretty damn rude and hostile to english speaking Americans like me. they tend to look down on us and I usually get the "not welcome here" feeling when out fooling around in one of the towns from the locals. |

It could be argued that the nationalists actually succeeded because puerto rico is an enduring financial burden on the USA. They pay almost zero taxes, and minimum 42% of puerto ricans living on the island are on welfare. They have a program there similar to SNAP but more like a dream come true.... it allows them to receive a large part of that benefit as cash. |
