It's not really about trusting anyone else in particular.  You have to look at people's hostile reactions from their point of view:
In your very first post, you started a new thread inviting people to debate the tactical advantages of semi-automatic and fully automatic fire.  Some people would take that as a Three Letter Agency fishing attempt for anyone who is suspiciously knowledgeable about full auto fire, beyond what their military record might indicate (if such Three Letter Agency can match up user names with real names).

There are plenty of regulars and older posters who are shills or probable government agents, but they have to conduct themselves with some bare minimum level of care to avoid a ban, which becomes more and more damaging the older the account is.  A fed posting on a brand-new account doesn't really have to worry about losing years of reputation (good or bad), so whenever someone makes a first post like yours, people are halfway expecting straight-up entrapment coming from that account before long.  Can you really blame them, especially considering your username?

Plus, there's just a general hazing culture at GD.  If any of your first few hundred posts go against the grain, people's alarm bells go off.  Some people will circle the wagons to drive you off, and others will poke and prod you for fun to see if you'll blow up like a lunatic or otherwise flame out.  I set off a lot of alarm bells when I first got here due to my own stubbornness, but people will chill out about you if you turn out to be reasonable in the long run.  Even if you're logically correct though, being combative as a newbie isn't going to help.  You kind of need to set ego aside and take some licks to let misunderstandings deescalate.

Anyway, maybe you're a fed, maybe you're not.  You sound more to me like an over-zealous twenty-something-year-old hothead who just did a lot of reading and wanted to have a conversation with other people who think gun laws are retarded.  Whatever.

So without further adieu, welcome, fellow socially inept dumb-dumb.  May you adjust your shoveling trajectory and dig your way out of your hole...unless you're a fed, in which case I hope you accidentally arrest someone who deserves it, like your bosses.

Machine guns are not less effective than semi-autos depending on their use and the situation. You'll note that the military doesn't rely on semi-auto belt feds for certain tasks.

As for why the government fears MGs, most governments aren't happy with any kind of armed populace. The Libs would gladly take your "deer rifle" too.

I started this thread on the basis that the government is overly fearful and worried about its citizens owning machine guns so much so that they made the penalties caught with a post-86 unregistered one so severe that you may as well add a couple capital murders to the charges and or end yourself as your life would be finished anyways. Not to mention the Hughes Amendment that banned new machine guns from being made/registered for private ownership after May 1986 they must really fear the citizens even with old registered machine guns that have a owner's name, current address, fingerprints and social security number all easily found in their records. With all the stuff with the FRT trigger and other types of triggers they really are concerned with people being able to dump magazines in a quick amount of time even though it does not change the lethality.

They aren’t.  They are more feared by the average person and therefore easier for government to demonize.
