I found a bunch of Hornady .450 marlin ammonia on clearance for $19/box... and a .450 Marlin at Sportsman's Warehouse back when they were doing all those store closing also on a big sale.  It's awesome on hogs... at 8 yards in the brush.

When I heft my 1886, I feel like wiping out a herd of buffalo.  I'm pretty sure that this is normal.

I want to shoot them from trains and leave the carcasses to rot in the hot sun.

I will settle for buffalo steaks though.

I'm going to pose my 1886 with my Resistol when I get home this afternoon.

I mean, regardless that's ridiculous. That's over four times the weight of a .308

730 Grain Wide Flat Nose Gas Check (.458)
A very heavy bullet for .458 rifles. It can be used for extreme loads in calibers such as 458 Winchester, 458 Lott, 45-120 Sharps, and also the 45-70. In 45-70, it will not cycle through a lever action however. The overall length of the bullet is 1.690 and the length of the nose from the crimp groove is 0.720.
So what I need to do is buy another 1895 and send it to JD Jones and have him chamber it in 45-70 Whisper so I can run these.

So I went to powder coat some 405s yesterday.  This bullet is so devastating that it broke my plastic container just from shaking about 20 of them around for 1 minute.  This same container has been used to coat thousands of 175gr .40 cal bullets, but that massive hephalump bullet was just too much for it and the sides cracked.

My wife informs me that I will have to buy Rubbermaid or genuine tupperware for future use.

Planning to start powdercoating soon. Between my .357AR, .450 Bushmaster and .45-70 I'll definitely have a use for it.

Have had no issues with unjacketed quenched wheel weights though.

They're fantastic meat.

Ted's Montana Grill is great. At dinner you can get Bison steaks, and at lunch you can get Bison hamburgers. Both are incredible. There's a butcher in Springfield, VA that sells Bison steaks. The ground Bison is everywhere in supermarkets.

One if my favorite meats. I need to kill it and grill it with a 45-70

Henry H010AW all weather.  Currently have a Cabela’s caliber-specific .45-70 scope on it.  Might change to a peep sight.

I can take or leave the scope but I want a Henry...as much for how the company treats their customers as any other reason.

I bought a Henry AR7 clone at a pawn shop that had a very loose front sight insert. Emailed asking to buy a replacement and made it clear it was a pawnshop gun. They asked for my address and 3 days later I had 3 new inserts. No charge. They want my next Henry to be a new purchase.

ETA-since none of these have been posted..

You will be VERY happy with a Henry.

I have the H010CC. To me, it's the best of everything. You get the recoil pad (instead of brass), octagonal barrel, and the color case hardening.

Yeah about $100 more.

I am going to get another, torn between Marlin Trapper and Henry All Weather.

Probably going to wait though. I'm focusing on ammo and AR stuff in preparation for stuff. I think 45-70 rifles will always be relatively "safe"

I have one of their .38/357s too.

Henry makes really nice, accurate guns. I know GD wants loading gates, but for the purposes I'm using the rifle for, the lack thereof doesn't bother me one bit.

Where did you find the leather wrap for the lever? Is it removable?
I like it, I'd fear rust would develop under there though.

I have a marlin 1895 I picked up a few years back. The wood grain is beautiful.
Dont know if I'll ever shoot it, or use it for trade bait someday.

Ricochet Roy's. They make them for all the different models, even big loops.

You could remove it, but you stitch it on like a baseball, so to put it back on you'd have to re lace it.

https://rroldwest.com/product-category/lever-wraps/

I really like them. I put them on all my levers. Really comfortable, and they look nice too.

Nope. Friend of mine has one though, just need to get to the range with him. I want an Encore frame, and a .30-06 or .308 barrel will be on my short list to get. maybe a .500 or .460 as well.

I did get offered a chance to shoot the .600 NE Encore. I said no to that one.

Did someone say 45-70 handgun?

Fun,aren't they? They're even fun to watch someone else shoot.

I've only had 2 people shoot it more than once.
You ever shoot one in 500? I get similar results Only 45-70 pistol I've shot was a BFR and the recoil was pretty mild but I can't remember what the load was.
Nope. Friend of mine has one though, just need to get to the range with him. I want an Encore frame, and a .30-06 or .308 barrel will be on my short list to get. maybe a .500 or .460 as well.

I did get offered a chance to shoot the .600 NE Encore. I said no to that one.
Yeah screw that nonsense. I might try it but for the most part I’m over the voluntary pain for fun part of my life.

I love everything about the Henry. Except the loading tube. I want a side loading gate on my lever guns.

I like gates, but never understood the necessity.

I can't see a dire need to top off a 45-70.

However I personally hate 20 round AR mags. I see their value for prone shooting, but they just feel wrong.

So I guess we all have our gun quirks.

That single-shot CVA has me tempted. I wish it had a wood stock option, but I can live with synthetic at that price.

I love 20 rd mags, from the bench too, golf cart, side x side, they rest on the bottom just right, 30's are to long.

You could be right about the gate. I'm just saying it don't LOOK right without the gate is all. Nothing to do about fuction

I have 2 Henrys, I love em. Rimfires though.

See what I mean?

And I completely understand the function of 20rnd mags, but just doesn't look freedom enough for me.

Lol

I just wanted a modern one to handle high power loads suited for today’s modern super animals.

You should still get that, so I'm only 50% wrong despite being thoroughly embarrassed.
