Overnight, during the G W Bush administration, our government started having "Czars" in charge of things. That seemed strange to me and nobody spoke up.

Overnight, during the O Bunghole administration, "folks" became a popular word.  These "folks" and those "folks". Seemed pretty stupid to me, but just me I guess.   Now I see "folks" of color on leftist protest signs.

Meh.  Oh well.

"Folks" has been common (and still in use) for generations in the deep south. Obama was using it as the "I'm a common man" bullshit all people of privilege float when they're running for office.

And that one, to the best of my knowledge, came out of the biker community, and is still considered very derogatory in polite society. I think Hunter Thompson made a couple of comments about it in "Hell's Angels".

"Wife Unit" seems to have had longevity.

What I don't hear any more is "Old Lady".

On the single scene "Cum Dumpster" can still be found.

Tough call as to which is worse: wife unit or wifey.

Also, was used in Star Trek The Motion Picture after Lieutenant Ilia(the bald chick), comes back as the robot. Carbon based units, Kirk unit, and so on, making it popular for a while.

Someone said old lady in another thread, the reeeing was something to see. Hopefully the posters were just shitposting, but if not, I’d imagine they sat down to pee.

Boss lady
But most of the time it is just woman.   She usually thinks something is wrong if I actually use her name.

It seems like overnight I've seen a large uptick in the term "wife unit".  This strikes me as strange thing to call your wife. Does it only apply if your wife is large aka a "unit"?  It doesn't sound like a term I'd apply to petite women.

It's a cultural thing, there's no difference between this and "shorty" or "shawty".

If you don't like it, don't say it.

Agreed.  I've never heard "unit" being a reference to something big or fat or huge, but rather as an individual piece of something.  "I bought 20 units at 200 dollars each" sort of thing.

I'd kind of argue with that one. Kit is in the Cambridge English Dictionary, and many others. It's not slang, or a stupid nickname, it's just a British term for "a set of things, such as tools or equipment, used for a particular purpose or activity."

I guess it did get corrupted somewhat when it started being used to refer to a single item, but there are a lot of British expressions in common use on this side. If you're ever called someone dim, or said they were smartly dressed...guess what?
