Took me a day to drive from NYS to Little Rock.
A friend drove from SoCal to NYS in three days last year, and that was with a small side trip along the way Maybe we should look for a truck leaving a trail of lawyer business cards My system for long distance drives is to stop for gas every two hours. Every other stop I get something to eat in addition to gas. Works for me |

Is your trailer single axle? Long distance high speed single axle fucking blows donkeys.
Double axle with brakes is best. Do you have suitable spare tires and bearings/ races or hub assemblies? Jack? Make sure you can see your trailer tires in the mirrors. |

Did it more than once. May do it again. Not really looking forward to it. |

I was checking one the other day to get miles (not time) to get from where I live to Williams, Az and it had no trouble suggesting remote 2 lane county roads through the middle of the desert as a few minutes faster than the interstates. And I40, btw is heavy truck traffic. There's a point when it is time to park it and rest. We don't need a legend of The Ghost Penguin In The Sky. Take that middle route on your map, along I-70, then drop down to St. George through Cedar City on I-15.
Don't take the southern route through the Navajo Reservation. Although the reservation roads are good and you can maintain good speeds, they also go through towns where you have to slow down. But the worst thing is that they don't run directly in the direction you are going to want to go (from SE to NW). You will waste time juking and jiving through the reservation and it is especially frustrating to do this in the dark (I have done it). |

Haven't done that long a drive in decades but in the late 80's I went from Boulder, Co to Stroudsburg, PA in 3 days. I kept meeting up with a camper family as I traveled. We both drove at night to avoid the day time traffic. I got stuck in some bumper to bumper anyway and as I got close to the end I saw the accident that caused it. It was the camper family. He fell asleep at the wheel and they went over a steep embankment at 75mph. They all died. Take your time and get plenty of rest on the way.

Not a route comment but a long-distance driving comment in general.
I've driven all over the country, and logged too many thousand-mile days. Take it easy with the caffeinated beverages, because it's a diuretic. Much better to stay within yourself and keep that stuff for when you're fading a bit. I try to combine gas, bathroom, and food into one stop. When I do stop, I take a couple minutes to limber up before I get back in. Some deep squats, swinging my arms around, stretching, bouncing, whatever. It really does help. Keeping the wheels turning is a bigger factor than my speed. So I try to relax, save the hard-pumping music for night, and just enjoy the scenery. And towing a trailer, check waypoints on your route options for any wind conditions. I like weather.gov for that. |

I’m a big fan of foam earplugs to help keep you fresh. The noise inside the uHaul cabin will be awful and wears you out faster. (I have used them on motorcycles and airplanes, makes a difference for me)
And please quit telling people about Utah. I think we are full

I recently did 1600 miles in 2 days by myself. Adding a 3rd day to that would have been taxing, especially if it was a firm schedule/destination.

No matter which way you go it is going to suck ass in a U-Haul.
The southern route avoids steep/ mountain grades until you get to AZ. If you take 89 through Res from Flagstaff to George there is some serious elevation changes esp if you think 89A is a short cut. Scenic as hell but 89 is also prone to washouts and closures. Chicago I 80 can suck bad if you hit rush hour and it is usually pretty clogged with semis. Salt Lake City I-15 corridor is best avoided too during rush hours. |

And/or maybe some kind Arfcomer would let you park at their place overnight (as above)? I'd decline any offers of imitation crab meat though; ymmv. if you're moving to SW Utah; you need a rock crawler with a rifle & nunchuck rack. Yeah it's been one thing after another delaying me-mainly issues around trying to get my house ready to sell. I was so fed up today I rented a storage unit. Hell I'm about ready to sell my guns and fly out. I have a Glock out there and can buy a deer rifle, shotgun and build an AR. My wife did talk me down lol

I never seen so many non driving pussies in one place before in my life! I just rolled in from northwest NE to eastern mid TN in 20 hours. Ive made the drive from Radison Quebec to TN, a 36 hr drive, straight through, in 32 hours with one other driver to swap out with. Ive done 20 hours straight by myself a few times, it aint fun but it can be done.

Are all backwater generic "traveling salesman" motels over $ 150 a night? How is a three story motel with a 2/3 empty parking lot full? If I wasn't a privileged white male I'd be suspicious. I think I left behind two boxes of comics I bought as a little boy in the 70s and a Taiwan made SOG seal pup somewhere. Long distance driving is a young man's game. Why would the highway dept put up a "gas" sign at an exit with no gas station and no gas station anywhere near? My suspicion is the next exit had several competing monster truck stops with huge gas stations and fast food so they were trying to divert some business to the little town just down the road. I found a weird unmanned pumping station for fleet vehicles. At least I didn't run out of gas. |
