When I meet a receptionist I hope s/he can help me and knows what s/he is doing or saying. Is confident, meets dress code and is not dressed like a lot lizard and not a bitch.
What a person has on their skin, or looks like doesnt mean much. Know your job and perform it to the best of your ability. |

What about a man dressed as a women for a receptionist? How about working the desk at an elementary school?
What about a women that looks like a 45 year old man? Do you want her at your front door? What about a women who is 5’6” and weighs 350lbs? Would you hire her? What if it means you had to buy a special desk and chair? What about a tongue piecing, 4 lip piercings, and ear gauges? What about a person without an arm? What if they were in a wheelchair? What about a plain dressed white person working at an urban clothing and cultural store, in a neighborhood that is 95% black? Are they going to get hired? What about a barber shop, in a primarily black area, owned and operated by only black people? Do you think they would interview the white person on the same level? Would it be a factor? Would you hire someone who had 8 young children if they talked about them a lot? What it it was a high stress, long hour position? Would you hire a women who was 8 months pregnant with her first child that was talking about how many kids she wants? My point is everyone judges everyone else, and we fight our experiences, and our bias wether we like it or not. It’s not a generational thing necessarily, it’s human nature. In all cases stereotypes exists because there is at least some truth to them. |

I'm still waiting for the hat buffet someone here promised to eat. I'm not rich, but solidly in the positive net worth category, as is my wife. Both in professional settings with visible tats.
No surprise he hasn't been back, posting something that stupid while trying to come across as superior rarely works out. No one with an IQ above 60 could have posted something like that. |

I don't understand all the comments about posting her picture. Of course y'all are probably the ones who black out your serial numbers when you post a gun pic.

As a person with tattoos I understand and agree that it is indeed unprofessional looking. I can hide all my ink under a short sleeve shirt and I purposely had them done that way so I could be comfortable in the heat while not potentially offending or scaring customers. So, with that being said I absolutely would not have a receptionist that looked like a sideshow attraction greeting anyone of importance. Anyways this whole trend of girls getting covered up in ink is ridiculous and off putting. I would never date a girl with ink as I find it extremely unattractive. That opinion may make me a hypocrite but that's just how I feel about it.

Quoted: because customers will make an assumption about the business based on the first person they see at the reception desk. Many of them will see a tatted-up woman and assume the place is trashy. The brokerage WILL lose certain business over it. She could be the nicest, most professional person ever, but sorry, that's the way the world works. View Quote I doubt the first impression of a brokerage firm would be her, sitting at a desk. Wouldn't it be the advertisement that caused the client to call? Wouldn't they have talked to her on the phone to set up an appointment? Would the building also influence the impression? What about reviews, or the opinion of other professionals that may have introduced the brokerage to the client? All of those things would have been a part of the client's "first impression" before stepping into the office. |

Quoted: We are in a conservative state and owned by very old school conservative people and they don’t have a problem with It. In fact she’s taking a new job and they are begging her to stay. She smiles and talks to everyone who comes in our office and knows their names. View Quote Yep. We are probably the most conservative when it comes to being anti-tattoo for reasons (don’t worry that’s as far as I’m taking it) And tats have largely become a non-issue and behavior is more important. As it should be. I have no tats but will likely get one in the near future and I’m in exec leadership at my very conservative company. Anti tattoo hiring is stupid and a throwback to companies thinking they own their employees lives. The 1950’s are over. |

She looks like a very pretty woman but as a former manager and a GM who hired it would have been a no go at my last two companies. One was old school conservative and the other was a private orthodox Jewish company. Hell I sent a solid candidate to corporate for a skills set test and she never made it past the Sr VP because she showed up showing just a tad of cleavage. I told her conservative and she apparently did not understand it.
Corporate culture and image is still a thing for some companies and it either works or it does not. Trying to buck the system usually does not work. I am laughing at so many in this thread who are pissed at the people who would not hire her or anyone else who shows ink etc. The dirt bags of the late 60's and the bra-less wanted to tell corporate America what the dress code should be and corporate America pushed back. The push for casual Fridays. the ending of business attire for so called comfort, and people pushing the limits with jeans. You have the freaks with their weird haircuts, piercings and now all of the ink. Most of this was pushed by the leftists who are generally despised on this site but it is funny how so many are embracing looks that set our country down the wrong path. You have a right to be who you are but as long as the employer is not violating the law in the hiring, you have no right to the job. You do not have a right to push your personal agenda onto an employer. |

Sure. Tattoos are so common place now I’d think most people are desensitized by it anyway.

Quoted: No. Because it's unprofessional. And for those of you who disagree; I don't give a fuck what you think. View Quote I have a lot of tattoos and piercings. We haven't had a good inkies vs blankskins thread in awhile, and this one is really rustling jimmies.
No, not professional, hit the bricks. There are exceptions certainly, but tattoos generally = trashy. Would be interesting to see a large random sampling of people with and without tattoos and compare net worth, IQ, history of drug use, education, criminal history, mental illness, STD infections, fatherlessness... |

Tattoos are for felons, bikers and military service. Women should not be felons, bikers or in the military.

From the pic, it looks like she went in, tore a flash poster from the wall, signed a open check, and sat down in the chair.
I’d be wary in the hiring process. Some kind of person that has a bunch of location stickers on their luggage, but they were all bought at the same gift shop. |

I’m okay with sleeve tattoos if done right. Crazy colored hair, facial tattoos and facial piercings and ear gauges are a big “no go” for me.

I spent 14 years in the .mil, and I'm pretty inked up - full sleeve, calf, chest and back. If I show up to the interview and then every subsequent day of work in a long sleeve button down shirt, you'd never know I had any tattoos. Probably the only time you'd see them would be when I showed up to the company BBQ in shorts and a t-shirt.

This reminds me of 25 years ago when all the tech start-ups were booming and the employees were all in their 20s and 30s wearing jeans and tshirts. The suit and tie boomers would have a fit about them not being 'professional' even though they were making serious cash. Even today, arfcom boomers wouldn't approve of what is considered professional attire at tech companies

Tats aren’t my thing and in general only take away from a woman, not enhance. That said no I would not disqualify her from working for me if she had the skills, work ethic and mindset I needed.
This isn’t the 1950’s and is the norm that people have tats, at least it looks tasteful from what I can tell. Neck/face tats are a no-go for me though but better they’re hidden all together in normal attire. |

Quoted: I know a dozen lawyers with a net worth that would blow your mind that are tattooed substantially, including one who has a full body suit that’s one of the better litigators that I know. On the spectrum of shit we have to deal with as employers, tattoos don’t even rate. My biggest complaint with employees is an entitled attitude that distracts them from working, as well as employees who are hopelessly attached to their phones. View Quote Uggh.... I had an attorney come to my office once and he had arm tattoos and he also wore one of those awful short sleeved shirts (think of Mark Wahlberg at the end of the 3 Kings movie - where he got a job a retail salesperson in the end).
