Say, Brownells, PSA or someone wanted to start mass production of one old, obscure or no longer in production firearm, and gave you the power to pick which one it would be, what would you pick?
You get to pick the original "retro" model, and can make suggestions for updates, variants or caliber options for the weapon. My pick is the Holloway Arms HAC-7.  Throwback Thursday: The Nifty Hybrid-Design HAC-7 Battle Rifle 20", 18" and 16" barrels. Updates would be M1913 rail on the upper receiver for optics mounting, and an MLok handguard. Optional calibers would be .308 based cartridges. 6.5 Creedmoor first, followed by .260 Rem and maybe 7mm-08. |

Only one? But there's so many great ideas!
Krag Jorgensen rifles/barreled actions and mechanisms with stronger steel for modern cartridges, Webly Scott designs in .357 (yes I know of that one company that makes them for $10k), R51 that doesn't suck ass, The Robinson Arms M96 with all relevant conversions with actual factory support, Winchester 1895 muskets and rifles in 7.62x54R, and other shorter intermediate calibers. Merwin Hulbert. The Magpul Masada and all of its promised conversions and parts, rather than the fat, expensive pig the ACR became. Colt Monitor, this time with more caliber choices. LeMatt, cartridge loading with .327 Federal and whatever gauge would fit. The TRW Low Maintenance Rifle (LMR). |

I remember drooling over the ads for those in Shotgun News when I was a kid. Maybe a licensed copy of the Daewoo K1 or K2. Either one of those would be sweet. |

Another vote for the FS2000, though I don't know if that counts as obscure.
A civilian Steyr ACR would be awesome too. My understanding is that the accuracy issues stemed from inconsistencies in the sabots that wouldn't be present with modern materials. |

Open bolt semi auto series of Mac firearms. You have to know about the normal triggers in the gun function to understand why. Not talking about any type of modification, just as the guns were built.

My vote is for the Broom Handle Mauser in 9MM as well. I would like to see one that you could install a 16" barrel and a stock when you wanted to. I am still trying to figure out a way to make a top loading AR15 that takes stripper clips. You could reload it with a detachable magazine as well.
While on the subject of the Broom Handle being made again. I know that metalurgy improved since the 19th century. Maybe an up-dated version to go along with one that looks and functions like the original that you would not be afraid to shoot too much. The updated version should take M16 stripper clips holding 9MM rounds. I might have to settle for a CZ Skorpion in .32 ACP since that is closer to my time in history. |
