My impression is the opposite. I meet very few people 60+ with advanced problem solving or reasoning skills.
The under 30 crowd tend towards being naive and childish, but the computational power upstairs is certainly there. |

Consider how many barely literate people post here. You can see any number of truly silly and ridiculous spelling, grammar, and usage errors on a daily basis.
I'd be ashamed if I did not possess a functional level of knowledge of my own language. I would not interact with people with the written word until I had at least developed an understanding of the above three error classes. Here's where it really gets weird. Most of the people that seem unable to function at this most basic level do not seem embarrassed or shamed by this. In fact, they poke fun at the people who can use the language properly and reject any attempt to help them improve themselves. One reason the left jokes about the intelligence level of gun owners is because of this lack of basic communication skill. If you're going to type or write like an idiot, you probably are one. The future documentary referenced this too.
