I have a frame pack for my road bike that holds my glock.. Lately I have been wondering if open carry would be a better solution tho. For mt biking I think crashing is a scenario which warrants consideration. The gun should be on you not the bike in that case.

It's pretty much the perfect piece of gear for certain applications. I use it backpacking, where I still want quick access to a handgun but conventional carry options are limited.

I think it is the best biking option by far. I don't really get all of the "I put my gun my Camelbak answers". What good is a gun in a backpack if you suddenly find yourself needing it?

Just make sure its very very secure, but of course accessible. I crashed my mountain bike 3 weeks ago descending a rocky hill. Broke my arm, smashed my helmet, and the tumble down the hill knocked the rear wheel completely off my bike.

Don't think many standard carry methods would have kept a gun from flying off into the woods. Or for that matter I wouldn't have wanted a chuck of steel strapped to my body either.

Seriously, this was a $5 experiment in seeing if you could make a fanny pack holster not scream "fanny pack holster" while worn. The relative merits of the idea are certainly debatable. I have rarely worn this thing.

I would strongly recommend that no one actually be stupid enough to do this if they really NEED said emergency medications of course.

Then again, I was kind of hoping that much would be patently obvious without needing to spell it out, but I guess not.

The 5.11 under armor holster compression shirt works pretty well under a long zippered bike jersey

Small flat autos hide best (the pocket is almost under your armpit)

Make sure to hose it down after each ride ;)

I checked out both the Kit Bag and the Runners Kit Bag. I don't think that the Runners Bag is enough smaller to make it worth giving up the extra pocket. Either is the perfect solution to carrying on a bike. I still think that a gun in the Camelbak or other backpack is nearly completely worthless.

Um no actually. As I said, I wanted to post there to get good info. If you read my post there its pretty evident I wanted good info and not a debate. I like MTBR and dont really want to troll tbut I admit I was interested in what kind of replies I would get. So yeah that was part of my motivation to go ahead and post it but it wasnt the main reason. I knew others as well wanted to see what type of folks post there as well. It helps to know what type of crowd you are dealing with before joining another site and to be honest, MOST responses are decent and thats actually what I hoped to see. I honestly didnt want to watch a bunch of self righteous indignation from either side. I can say I am pleased with most responses, even from a few who evidently dont carry, but were helpful.

BTW, I bought a fanny pack that has loops to attach to the handlebars (goes in the same position as a number plate). I put my PF9 in there.

It's fast to get to if I'm on the bike, if I crash it's not going to be on me, and it unclips and goes with me when I'm off the bike.

I'd highly suggest that route in lieu of having it on you. I'm dealing with an accident where I went OTB and hit a tree on my side/hip. Even with nothing in that area the bruising and pain is awful...I think a hard object there would have broken bones or at the very least caused major tissue damage.

I checked out MTBR thread and it was tamer than I expected. A lot of "you seem familar" over there as far as usernames and lingo. I think more Mtn bikers are hip to CCW than roadies are, had you posted this on a road biking forum or Let'sRun.com you would have been eviscerated.
I know locally, that I see NRA stickers on Mtn bikers trucks at the trailhead, that would never fly in a roadie setting. Hell, I used to catch static from roadies on group rides about my CSA battleflag socks.

As far as CCW in the 305, get a hard chrome P3AT or a PF9 and use a Remora holster in your jersey pocket. I have crashed numerous times with my .380 and have never had a problem with it falling out or injuring my lower back. If you don't have a hard chrome or SS finish, you will need to clean it regulary.

I ride rail trails. And wear cargo shorts over a pair of padded bike shorts(20 miles of half taken care of half not rail trail will make you always wear them) so I also wear my wilderness instructors belt. I carry with a Desantis OWB holster with a thumb snap. Same holster I use almost daily.
