Every standard cab longbed I see has a giant toolbox eating up the front 2 feet of bed space because you can't store dick in the cab.  My 5 foot bed is perfectly adequate for hauling a set of wheels, lawnmower, firewood, scrap metal, etc.  If I need more capacity I can hook up a trailer or rent a work truck from Home Depot.

If it's not a Tacoma.....it's hated here.
If it's not a full sized bed measured by plywood configuration carrying capacity.......it's hated here.
If it's a full sized bed that can carry a full sized piece of plywood.....it's hated here.
If it's not the right drivetrain, year, package, color.........it's hated here.
If it's stock.....it's hated here.
If it doesn't have a totally worked LS1 motor dropped into it, like everyone just has one lying around in their garage....it's hated here.
If it's lifted, leveled or has a pine tree air freshener hanging from the rear view......it's hated here.

You can't win a truck discussion here. No matter what you do, buy or have will never be good enough. It's worth the 2 bucks a month to watch truck threads where people totally shit themselves over. A lot of stereotypical insecure people here.

My hot wife and I run a small farm. I have a 24' pocket cruiser on a trailer and a tractor I have to trailer at times.
When I'm not measuring my gigantic dick, signing autographs and my wife is not at a super model photo shoot, we ride around in my crew cab.
Of course we keep both air conditioned seats going full blast...because, well, we're hot as a couple of firecrackers.
LTZ/Z71 Master Race checking in. Go be poor in another thread.

I have a (few) Cummins mega cab dually. My “itty bitty” bed is usually just half full... The 14k lbs 24” enclosed car trailer in tow to the job is completely full... Go be a little bitch about something else. My man vans are work trucks.

I own 11 Cummins duallys. I’ll continue to switch out the Crew cabs for Megas. We roll with 4 or 5 guys in each truck every day. The crew much appreciates the larger and more comfortable back seat of the Mega cab. As the CC trucks run up to 400,000 miles, I sell them for newer Megas.

Seems like to me that anyone who needs to haul something that would require a full-size truck should either rent one for the job or hire someone with a big truck to do it.

(Makes as much sense as poor-mouthing people who like "small" trucks. )

If I was single and could only afford one car, I could probably get away with a hidden hitch on my Mustang (they make them...) and a trailer for about 90% of what I currently do with my truck. It's got a lot of HP and torque, and big ass Brembos to haul everything to a stop. Theoretically.

The only time I really miss the truck (when driving alone) is showing up at arfcom HTF events that invariably have directions including "turn off the paved road and go through the gate...".

I want to say Ford officially rates it as good for 1000lbs of towing (more than I normally do even in my truck), but I'll bet I could get it to 2k or better if I was careful about it around town. It's a 6pd manual, so I'm not even that worried about the transmission getting hot.

As a brand new truck owner, these threads interest me.

I have an '04 SR5 4x2 Tundra. It has the back seats and a 6 or 6.5 bed.

I use it to haul trash, logs for firewood, dogs to the vet, yard trash, garden supplies, wood, tools and even help others.

The part I really like about it most is the comfort. I am taller so the extra space helps. I can fit the family in it. Not our daily as I bought my wife a Camery.

The best ever was an old guy in the parking lot of the grocery store yelling at a Chevy truck because it was a Chevy and he drove a Ford. I don't think I've ever seen anyone that angry before and it was all against a truck just sitting there that had a badge different than his.

I don’t currently have one but am looking. Short beds are great for hauling stuff that you don’t want in your car.  Wet dock lines and fenders, cooler full or fish, animals, dirt bikes, tractors, etc.  Don’t need a long bed for most stuff, and it makes it a pita to park at the mall, grocery stock, kids schools, work, when going out to dinner, etc.

It’s still a Dodge to me. Spinning it off as a separate company was done so they could sell their profitable product line on it’s own or retain it and sell off the other junk. Calling it a Ram is silly.

I used to have an 2013 f150 with the short bed. The bed was deep so with the tailgate down, hauling 8ft sheets was no problem with the tailgate down. They make hitch mounted supports for longer lumber so it has never been an issue for me. My current truck has a 6.5 ft bed. I don't see a need for an 8ft bed and I use my truck as a truck.

I have heard that.

My friend loaned me his truck for wood and everything else. It died so now, since he is not getting another (slowing down on driving), I am honored to help him.

He cannot drive at night now.

My wife never wanted a truck. Two days ago she drove it briefly.

When she got out I saw then and finally .

She liked it and while she doesnt want to trade her car in for one, she sees a little how nice a ride mine is.

I’m in a fairly rural area so most dealers will have one on the lot. Usually a base model or low optioned XLT and they normally sit there till the end of the model year and the deep discounts come out.

Nailed it. After having a number of different pickup configurations and brands on my family's ranch, I'm at the point of thinking each style has it's pluses and minuses. Some setups excel at certain tasks and are inadequate for others. I know that sounds real general, but everyone has a different situation and requirements for what they want in a vehicle. That's why there is so many ways you can configure a pickup.

I'll admit, I'm not crazy about crew cab pickups with sub 6.5' beds, but if I lived in town and needed a more maneuverable vehicle while maintaining a bed of some sort, I could see it being a good choice. Especially if it is going to be my only vehicle. I know my extended cab 8' bed F250 is fine on the highway and small towns with little traffic, but can become clumsy in more urban settings. The 4Runner is nicer in those situations provided I don't need a bed.

I have a Super crew 5 1/2 foot bed. 2 wheel drive. I don't off road and have no issue in winter. (4k more for 4x)

I carry full sheets of plywood, mdf and melamine in mine with the gate down.

Then I have plenty of space on the inside for groceries, passengers or other stuff.

My turning radius is crap, but workable.
My truck barely fits in the garage (theoretically)

I think it is a good compromise.
I could tow a utility trailer if I really needed more capacity, but I haven't yet.

I usually order my vehicles, and I've always been able to negotiate down from sticker.  The rebates are hit or miss.  Some require buying from dealer stock, some do not.  Really depends on the incentives.
