Quoted: Wife is dead set on getting a 4Runner (new) TRD off road premium Apparently the dealerships can’t keep these things on the lots. Zero discounts. Any brands for a similar vehicle actually offering discounts right now? View Quote Yeah good luck getting a discount. And no, there basically aren't any similar vehicles in North America. The last real competitor (other than models rebadged as Lexus models) was the Xterra. There just aren't any domestic body on frame SUV's of that particular size with real 4wd that are worth a damn. Your wife isn't an idiot, you should listen to her. |

There really isnt one....
All tho the Tellurides are nice. Wife wanted one, but the two they had on the lot had already sold.. So she settled for the Seltos. |

This is what's selling in my area.
An 08 (sport model with 96K on it) V6 for 21 grand and it will sell. This particular dealer specializes in 4runners and they have sold many other Gen 4's for a similar price point Would personally prefer a V8 with leather but I'm not going to pay 20 + grand with for a 13 year old Toyota with 150K on it https://seattle.craigslist.org/est/ctd/d/kirkland-2008-toyota-4runner-sport/7303441266.html Long story short. 4runners almost appreciate in value |

Quoted: Wife is dead set on getting a 4Runner (new) TRD off road premium Apparently the dealerships can’t keep these things on the lots. Zero discounts. Any brands for a similar vehicle actually offering discounts right now? View Quote As another member posted, you just need to search other dealerships around you. Btw, try contacting the fleet manager or internet manager at a dealership in your community. You probably will be able to get the best deal as they don't involve a salesman. Ask them to search for your model with the features you want and they can easily find what dealerships throughout the US have what you are looking for if they do not have it. Typically, they can arrange a dealership trade. Check out https://www.edmunds.com/ to discover the dealership's cost. When negotiating, start at their cost and ask them what they are willing to sell it as compared to their cost. Do NOT say a number or even "blow or above" their cost. Great deals are when you purchase the vehicle plus or minus $500 of their cost. Ask them to email you their invoice so as you can verify their cost as well. I have been following this method of buying for decades and every year help 5-6 clients with the same method. If the dealership does not have a fleet manager, ask for the general manager. The timing of the above process does NOT matter if you are buying at the end of a model year or not. Dealerships want to move inventory in order to qualify for manufacturing rebates based on volume sales. Plus, they don't want to pay flooring interest on vehicles sitting on their lots. I bought my 2020 4Runner Premium for $400 over their cost back in December 2019 from Groove Toyota in CO. I see they have many 4Runners in stock, including a TRD https://www.groovetoyota.com/searchall.aspx?Make=Toyota&Model=4Runner&Year=2021 We have an Xterra as well and love it. But unfortunately, they are not being made. We did look at Jeeps at one time before deciding upon the 4Runner. If you read Consumer Reports, it gives several reasons to avoid the Jeep. Good luck OP! I hope this helps..... |

Quoted: Depending on what she is after, there are probably a ton of similar vehicles. View Quote If she's after a lame SUV-shaped minivan of dubious longevity, then OP should ignore that. See, it points to a 4runner either way. Now if a smaller vehicle was OK and a regular part time 4wd setup wasn't mandatory, I could see CRV, RAV4, or the Trailhawk versions of the Renegade or Cherokee in the running (with the latter two coming with an asterisk pertaining to Chrysler quality - but they're fun vehicles). But for that specific size - Toyota or Lexus. Grand Cherokee, Ford Exploder, or whatever the fuck GM craps out these days aren't worth the headaches + price tag in relation to the features offered. |

Quoted: Quoted: Just because she wants a body on frame SUV? Does she do a good bit of off-road travel? Fuck no. You know how women are. If that's the case, convince her the LE is a better car. She won't have to worry about shifting into and out of 4wd when your roads get slushy. It'll handle better on the pavement, too. I had a '12 LE, now a '19 ORP, and I lived in Maine for five years, so I think I can make a pretty good comparison, considering the winter weather experienced in your neck of the woods. Around here, LEs are only listed about $2-3k more than ORPs. Once you've gotten her out of the mindset of a part-time 4wd body-on-frame SUV, you can steer her towards more reasonable crossover types like a rav4 or highlander. Toyota just revised the projected MPG, again, for the 2021 4Runner - 16 city, 19 highway. The highlander gets almost 2x better highway fuel efficiency at 36 mpg That said, I drive like a grandma in my ORP and average 20 mpg, but don't expect the average driver to get anywhere near that |

Quoted: Yup. I realize that. She also wants to buy a new house "because mortgage interest rates are low", yet the home prices are anywhere from $100K-$200K overpriced, money we'll never recover. View Quote I'm not sure how the housing market is in your area....BUT... Buy the new house FIRST, then later a vehicle. Especially, IF you will be financing a new vehicle purchase. By buying a new house first, your debt ratio will be lower since there is no new vehicle payment. Thus, you will qualify to buy a more expensive house and afford a higher house payment. If you did the opposite (bought a vehicle first instead of a house), the vehicle payment will hurt you in determining what you can qualify for and afford relating to a house and house payment. Maybe a house is really more of a need, and perhaps the 4Runner is more of a desire or want..... Good luck with your choices! |

Quoted: It is pretty public (the GX thing) and the Toyota tax has been applied to them locally. One of the enthusiast used car lots snaps up every clean one they can get their hands on (they have hooks in a few local dealerships and get first dibs on trade ins that are just barely too old or high milage enough to be put back out on the used lot). They buy em, butch them up a bit with TRD wheels, aggressive tires and maybe a roof rack and put them out on the lot at dumb prices. And people snap them up. One of my clients has a fleet of GXes (I think they have 4 in total). Very wealthy people who just use them as daily drivers when they are in town. All are garage kept, dealer serviced and pretty low mile. I told him straight up I will beat trade in when it comes time to turn them over. View Quote I'm looking to buy another as a daily for my wife and as an investment. I paid 8 for mine and can probably get 14-15 with work Ive done to it. |

Just buy the 4runner she wants.
We bought a new one in 2016. Its now got 65000 troublefree miles on it. I do regular oil/filter changes and thats it. Only wear items ive replaced recently were 4 new tires and brakes on all 4 corners. The wife loves it so much she doesnt even want to trade it for another new one. |

Expand your dealership search. You'll find one. Although if you aren't taking it off road and wont be towing, I'd look into the Rav4. Nearly double the gas mileage.

It's that it basically appreciates or holds its value at an almost unprecedented rate compared to other SUV's. Which makes it a smart buy regardless of what your intent is Just my .02 |
