Made a batch of campninjas "The Sauce" today.
Used the laser to label the lids.

Forgot how much a full batch makes
Had to use an empty whisky bottle.

Thanks!   This explains why I tried to do some glasses with my 50w fiber for someone, and couldn't do diddly with it, even after spray painting the glass first.
And rough difference in cost, assuming new units of comparable power?

People have had luck with cermark spray on glass.

You can go gantry co2 or galvo. My next purchase is a 100w gantry co2. I really want a 10w galvo UV, but those are pushing 9 grand.

Growing up, my mom had a 32" restaurant griddle installed in the kitchen. We had a huge family.
She would have pancakes, bacon, eggs, all going at the same time. It was glorious.
I'm excited to be able to fire up both sides. Be able to cook eggs, sausage,  bacon on one half. Tortillas warming on the other side.

I've been meaning to ask you about your laser cutting.   I know you've posted some other cuts you've done.
Are you doing these cuts on a much more powerful laser at work, or are you doing some with the same machine you're using for your engraving?

I have a 50w fiber laser.   I tried to do a rather small cut today.   I wanted to make a hex cutout the size and shape of an 11/16" bolt head in mild steel that's only 1/8" thick.  I ran that thing all afternoon and into the evening.  It has broken through on one flat and a bit of the two adjoining flats.  At that point, I figured the rest would break through very soon, but I've run hundreds of passes since then (well over an hour) and still not breaking through.   At one point, I even stopped it and blasted it with compressed air to see if that might help, in case the slot was clogged.

If you are cutting with a comparable machine, what settings are you using to cut steel?  Mine is set up like this:
PEN0 - cutting - 80% power, 30mm/sec, 20 KHz, line-no hatch, 5 passes
PEN1 - cleaning - 20% power, 2000mm/sec, 50KHz, line- no hatch, was 1 pass, then I changed to 2 midway through this
I have run some 1500 passes of the above set.  300 passes is about 50 minutes, so that's 4-5 hours I've been struggling with this.

PIC:   (steel below cut is so laser doesn't mark table when it burns through - I was using a piece of wood, but it was catching on fire)

Yeah, I realized after I started the job that I should have turned it so the flats were adjacent to the wrench handle sides.  It's burned all the way through on the left-most flat hundreds of passes ago, but not the rest of it yet.

Any suggestions from ORjeepguy or anyone on best settings for cutting steel?   This has been just awful; nothing I'd want to do again unless something improves.

We have 5000 watt laser at work that cuts 1" plate in a single pass. Bed size of 60x120". We also have a plasma table that will do 3" plate, 10'x40'. This has a flame head that will do up to 8" plate.

I only cut little trinkets at home. These lasers are best for engraving.

Sounds like you need to make a slightly offset line within your hex. Then hatch that area.

Basically what I did with these 14ga silver earrings. About 250 passes, if I remember correctly. Couple hours.

Make sure your focal length is correct. I had to lower the head three times while cutting this out.

I did do the head lowering during the process.   Before starting, I measured the focus at the top & bottom of the steel; about 3/4 of a turn.   So every few hundred passes, I'd lower the head a bit.  It's now down to the point of the bottom of the steel.
5000 watts!   That must be mighty impressive to use!
I'll try an offset line.
Did my settings seem good to you?   I got them from comparing & combining from several YouTube videos on settings to use for deep engraving.

I also noted, in that list you posted of what materials work best with which laser, that mild steel does not seem to be mentioned at all.   Stainless steel, tool steel, nickel-plated steel; but no mild steel.   Is mild steel harder to cut with a laser?

Steel and stainless deep engrave about the same.
Here is how I cut through the silver.

About a .2mm offset for the hatching area.

I'm sure there are better ways. But this is what worked for me.

Ordered a co2 laser about a week ago, straight outta China.

Just received photos of it, all assembled and ready to ship. Coming on a slow boat. Should be about 80 days.

100w, 24" x 36" bed. I have no idea where I'm going to put it yet
