Sheriff Explains How Toxic Pesticides Are In California’s Legal Weed Now

Siyamak sits down with Jeremiah LaRue, Siskiyou County Sheriff, who will tell us how he discovered that illegal pesticides are getting on legal marijuana in California.

"There is all kinds of corruption going on at different levels. There are certain labs that are testing, and if they come back with bad tests, they just clear it anyway. There is no way of knowing if the weed you're consuming is safe," says LaRue.

China announces joint naval, air drills with Russia

China has announced joint naval and air drills with Russia. The exercises, which start this month, underline the growing closeness of the two giant powers.

The Chinese Defense Ministry on Monday said it would hold joint military drills with Russia sending naval and air forces for a maritime patrol of "relevant areas of the Pacific Ocean" in September.

The move underscores the progressive alignment of the two countries, both militarily and economically, in opposition to the Western-led liberal democratic order.

What do the exercises involve?

Russian and Chinese forces are set to join the "North-Joint 2024" exercises in the skies and around the Sea of Japan and Sea of Okhotsk, off Russia's coast.

"This exercise aims to deepen the strategic cooperation level between the Chinese and Russian militaries and enhance their ability to jointly deal with security threats," the Chinese ministry said.

As well as a patrol, the ministry said China would participate in Moscow's "Ocean-2024" strategic exercise, a strategic command and staff exercise involving all branches of Russia's armed forces.

What do both countries have to gain?

Russia is seeking China's help in strengthening its position as a Pacific power, while Moscow has supported China's territorial claims in the South China Sea and elsewhere.

Increasingly, this has come to include the 180-kilometer (110-mile) wide

Taiwan Strait dividing mainland China from the self-governing

island democracy of Taiwan. Beijing considers the island part of its territory and has not ruled out the use of force if necessary.

Moscow and Beijing have increased military and economic cooperation in recent years, each opposing "Western hegemony" — particularly a perceived US domination of global affairs. In the run-up to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the two countries declared a "no limits" partnership.

NATO leaders claim China has become "a decisive enabler" of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, prompting Beijing to warn the US-led military bloc against "provoking confrontation."

No, but if you drink enough it will make you sick or kill you. Drinking methanol can make you go blind or kill you. Point being, the government forces companies to denature ethanol so that you can't drink it.

You’d think people would be smart enough to not consume stuff like that.  Then again - Tide Pods.

There was a guy in one of my high school classes, who every Monday would say something to the effect of “I got so drunk over the weekend…”.  One of those stories I remember because he talked about running out of regular alcohol and drank part of a bottle of cologne.  I already pegged the guy as a serious alcoholic so I do believe his story of drinking cologne was a true story.

I have no idea if he’s still alive or not, though.

IIRC, your liver converts Isopropyl Alcohol into formaldehyde and that's what does the actual damage.

Ranchers, experts believe they have an explanation for mysterious cattle deaths in Central Texas

Back in June, ranchers in the Axtell area were looking for answers after multiple seemingly healthy cows suddenly died. Months later, they might finally have an explanation.

Cattle rancher Kent Mathis has lost five cows, all within the span of a few months. After the third death, the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service sent an expert to help determine the cause.

“They did soil samples, grass samples, everything possible and nobody could tell me what was going on,” Mathis explained.

UN BEGINS PROCESS TO RE-AUTHORIZE HAITI MISSION

The UN Security Council began the process of drafting a resolution to extend its mandate for a peacekeeping mission in Haiti late Friday. The current mandate is set to expire at the beginning of October, and the current mission has seen little success. The draft resolution, as provided to media, orders "the U.N. to begin planning to transition the MSS mission to a U.N. peacekeeping operation, in order to sustain the gains made by the MSS mission."

The council is expected to vote no later than 30 September in order to continue the mission. In order to pass a resolution, at least nine votes are required with no vetoes by the US, France, Britain, China, or Russia.

GONZALEZ FLEES VENEZUELA FOR SPAIN

Venezuela’s opposition Presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez arrived in Spain Sunday, after taking a Spanish Air Force plane. Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said that Gonzalez’ “life was in danger” after the news broke that he had fled.

She also said, “the mounting threats, summonses, arrest orders and even blackmail and coercion he has faced show that the regime has no scruples or limits in its obsession to silence him.”

Gonzalez had entered the Dutch envoy’s residence in Caracas shortly after the election, where he had been protected. He was transferred to the Spanish aircraft in order to flee over the weekend.

“My departure from Caracas was surrounded by acts of pressure, coercion and threats,” Gonzalez said in a recording. “I trust that we'll soon continue the fight for liberty and the return to democracy in Venezuela.”

An arrest warrant against him had been issued by the Maduro government recently, and his apprehension was expected by our analysts unless, as we wrote in the 27 August Hotspot Report, he was able to flee the country.

CHINA WARNS PHILIPPINES YET AGAIN

Chinese authorities said relations with the Philippines are “at a crossroads” and Manila should “seriously consider the future” of the region in a commentary published by a CCP-controlled newspaper Monday.

"China-Philippines relations stand at a crossroads, facing a choice of which way to go," the article said. "Dialogue and consultation is the right path, as there is no way out of the conflict through confrontation."

The writing was penned under the name “Zhong Sheng” which means “Voice of China,” and is often used for political statements on foreign policy by CCP officials.

The alcohol made his blood acidotic. His acidosis decreased the ability for the virus to replicate. Same with the baby crying.

This has been my theory that,  if you are a full blown alcoholic but healthy and young otherwise,  not many of these types of people got Covid or really sick from it.  Viruses cant grow in a vat of booze.

More reports of Venezuelan gangs taking over apartments in Dallas.  This area is in Far North Dallas next to Plano and used to be a very nice neighborhood back in the 1990s.  Several Cowboys players lived in this area back then, too.

Just a few miles from me

Evidently, a lot of Venezuelans live in that apartment complex and possibly other close-by apartments, too.  I spoke to a friend who lives in Dallas who says the TdA gang is preying on other Venezuelans in the area and the police has teamed with those citizens to keep it under control for now.

Man, that area has changed a lot a little over 25 years.

This is the only msm that’s really covering the Dallas angle.  I find that a little interesting and also reminds me of flipping through the channels on Sept.  11, 2001 and finding out for the first time that people were jumping from the WTC buildings, including video footage, on the Spanish channels.

All translations made by Google Translate.  I’ll leave it as is.  The translation isn’t perfect, so Aragua Train = Tren de Aragua.  Despite my username, I’m just a “dirty white boy” from Texas.

"Aragua Train" activity detected in northern Texas

The Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua has been identified in North Dallas, Texas. Dallas Police confirm their presence and are working with other agencies to address related crimes. The Department of Justice is offering $12M for information on their leaders.

The criminal gang Tren de Aragua has arrived in Dallas, according to the police. This Venezuelan organization, known for drug trafficking and kidnapping, is already active in the United States. Local and federal authorities are on alert and collaborating to confront the growing threat of this international gang.

Tren de Aragua, terror beyond its borders

Formed in the Tocorón prison, in the Aragua state of Venezuela, the Tren de Aragua expanded outside its country in 2018.

Its first international foray was in Colombia, where it began trafficking people fleeing the Venezuelan political regime. Since then, the group has gained notoriety for its activities in drug trafficking, extortion, kidnapping and contract killing.

This expansion has led the Tren de Aragua to be compared to other international criminal gangs, such as the Mara Salvatrucha in El Salvador.

How to deal with the presence of the Tren de Aragua

In response to the threat posed by this organization, the Dallas Police Department "is collaborating with other agencies to confront possible crimes associated with the Tren de Aragua."

The department has stressed its commitment to preventing criminal activity and the safety of residents, although it has declined to provide specific details about ongoing investigations.

Jaime Castro, president of the Police Union in Dallas, has stated that law enforcement in northern Texas "will not tolerate the presence of this gang."

In a statement, the United States Marshals Alliance warned about the threat of the Tren de Aragua, indicating that "the group has given its members the green light to attack American police officers."

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Dallas has reported that "its agents are vigilant against any threat to security," focusing on protecting communities from illicit drug trafficking.

On the other hand, the Collin County Sheriff's Office has indicated that "they are monitoring activities related to the Tren de Aragua." Although there are suspicions about the presence of gang members in the area, no information has been confirmed about their activity in the area.

According to the Daily Mail, dozens of criminals have been caught trying to enter the United States, and those who have managed to enter have caused a wave of crimes nationwide.

"Border Patrol agents are now on high alert, checking migrants for tattoos characteristic of the Tren de Aragua," they add.

Aragua Train in Miami, New York, Chicago and Atlanta

Federal authorities have confirmed the presence of members of the Aragua Train in Miami, New York, Chicago and Atlanta, raising concerns about security in the country.

Delson Guárate, former mayor of a city in Aragua, who requested asylum in the United States, has denounced the arrival of the group in Georgia, where local authorities confirm its presence.

The United States Treasury Department has classified the Aragua Train as a “transnational criminal organization” and has offered a reward of 12 million dollars for the capture of its main leaders: Héctor Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, alias Niño Guerrero; Yohan José Romero, alias Johan Petrica; and Giovanny San Vicente, alias Giovanny. "We're On The Brink Of Collapse" - How The Everything Bubble Will Crash The Economy | Peter Schiff

Welcome to another eye-opening episode of Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu. Today, we delve into the looming economic turbulence with financial expert Peter Schiff. In this episode, titled "We're On The Brink Of Collapse - How The Everything Bubble Will Crash The Economy," we explore the potential downfall of the U.S. dollar as the reserve currency and its ripple effects on inflation and consumer goods.

Peter Schiff pulls no punches as he shares his insights on the monumental challenge of rebuilding U.S. manufacturing amidst high government regulations and taxes. He reveals the stark contrast between government-reported economic health and the reality of high inflation, unemployment, and a contracting economy. We discuss the power of media and political manipulation of public perception and the true cost of inflation, equating price increases to a hidden tax burdening citizens.

Schiff discusses strategic steps to protect your wealth, including investing in high-dividend, inflation-resistant companies globally, and stockpiling non-perishable goods. Additionally, he highlights the dangerous potential for a sudden, severe inflation spike and the importance of diversifying investments into precious metals and foreign markets.

We also cover the broader impacts of the U.S.'s economic policies on global trade and the precarious position of the dollar. Schiff argues for a return to the gold standard, scrutinizes contemporary political promises, and the implications of price controls, predicting a future where inflation accelerates and living costs soar.

Join us as we navigate these complex financial landscapes and uncover strategies to safeguard your financial future in uncertain times. Whether you're an investor, a concerned citizen, or someone passionate about economic policy, this episode is packed with crucial insights and practical advice. Stay tuned!

As a farmer I can say that how most of this country farms is not sustainable.  The aquifer’s are drying up.  We farm in desert’s with crops that need an incredible amount of water.  There is very little organic material in most farm fields, so the soil doesn’t hold water very well.  lol I could bitch all day about it.  We need big AG to go away. We need to dramatically decrease the number of mono crop fields and need to increase the amount of pasture with a dramatic increase in livestock. We don’t need to grow a chicken in 5-7 weeks feeding it shit.  If we want to make us all healthy again we need to make big changes.  Also we should start a campaign at the national level to get people to start gardening and raising their own food.  Make it easy to start up a butcher shop instead of it being a nightmare.

Ok end of rant.

Australia

Was chosen to read out a question from the audience for tonight’s Q+A—only for them to call and cancel last minute.

Which is greatly disappointing. Funnily enough, despite the ABC already running a 10-minute attack piece on me (likely not the last), I still would like nothing more than to get on there and argue an intelligent, younger-focussed, Australian-first and pragmatic position against mass immigration.

But these are the rules of the game, and you have to be realistic. Try as they might, I’m confident that they—the ABC and media more broadly—can’t stop the political shift that’s coming.

Here’s the question that I couldn’t ask.

Australia has around 800,000 international students in the country. Meaning 1 in 34 people in the country right now is a foreign student. Australia has more foreign students than Great Britain, and almost as many as the United States. We have 12% of the world's total foreign student population.

Meanwhile, we have record low rental vacancy rates, people are paying 50% of their wage on rent.  Pensioners are now having to live in sharehouses.  And families are being forced to live in their cars. Australian living standards are in terminal decline - while universities cash in.

My question is this. Does the panel believe that housing Australians is more important than educating foreign students. And if so, will they further reduce the number of foreign students in the country to 50,000, in order to free up housing for Australians?

Here are a few of the salient facts and features of being invaded by migrants.

First, you have to pay for them to get to and then enter your country illegally>  This is what government/taxpayer funding of NGOs means.

Second, you have to pay for the direct costs of transporting, feed and housing them.

Third, you have to pay for the indirect costs of higher insurance premiums, emergency services expenses, and high rent costs particularly for those on the lower socioeconomic rungs.

363 mil flights up right now over conus.  Not seeing anything out of the ordinary.  I see one NASA u2 up but that’s not a mil flight.  Tex 2’s and T-38’s are about half the flights they are trainers.

You can use https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=ae01c9 to check it out.

You can check out Monkey Werx US on YouTube. He does a decent job of keeping track of all the US aircraft that flies over conus an other parts of the world. Just remember while watching his show he’s selling a product which is himself so there is some doom to his videos which sells. He should have a new video out today. Here’s the last one.

Liz Truss: "I think I was right"

As arguably the most controversial Prime Minister in recent British history, Liz Truss has become the face of free market libertarianism and its discontents. She joins UnHerd’s Freddie Sayers to discuss her new book ‘Ten Years to Save the West’ and the lessons she learnt from her turbulent time as Conservative leader.

Have you figured it out yet? It only takes ten steps for the globalists to destroy America. Take a guess which step we're on right now:

Step 1: Launch a fake plandemic psyop to scare everyone into getting jabbed
Step 2: Make sure the jabs achieve mass infertility / depopulation and death of Americans
Step 3: Roll out mass #censorship (Government-Tech collusion) to silence anyone revealing the truth
Step 4: REPLACE the dying Americans with migrant invaders imported from Third World countries
Step 5: Instruct the media to DENY any replacement is happening at all, until it's too late for America to stop it, and then switch your narrative and claim anyone opposing the replacement is "racist"
Step 6: Grant voting rights to all the migrant invaders in order to out-vote the American people, effectively nullifying their political power
Step 7: Once sufficient political power is consolidated, nullify the Bill of Rights, ban the First Amendment, outlaw churches and confiscate the guns
Step 8: Once the guns are confiscated and speech is outlawed, dispatch government execution squads to eliminate remaining American dissenters
Step 9: Outlaw farming, combustion engines, energy consumption and transportation in order to achieve total collapse, mass famine and destitution
Step 10: As each crisis unfolds, demand more power for government to "solve" the problem with things like price controls and government-approved wages

BOOM! Kamala's communism becomes reality. We are currently at step 6.5 and if the Democrats aren't defeated and removed from power, step 7 will commence in 2025. America as you know it will be cooked like a Springfield, Ohio city park goose before the end of 2025.

The biggest banks and a cadre of spooky currency speculators have funded and now control most of the infrastructure underlying Bitcoin (energy, chips, ISPs, + general crypto infrastructure), with the openly stated goal of having it be only an asset you don’t and can’t spend. The US government and this small elite faction hold most of the Bitcoin, and once their financial control grid is complete, inflate its price through the roof.

As Catherine Austin Fitts has said of the elite’s plans: “once you steal everything, you want to move to a disflationary system.” These elites, who have a LOT of ties to the Epstein network, hold so much Bitcoin collectively and when currencies implode (which is something the currency speculators who back so much key crypto infrastructure have provably done in the past) pumping gold and silver, etc. instead would make too many other actors (incl other govts like China and Russia) very wealthy, while pumping Bitcoin will make only a specific, largely US-based cabal very wealthy. When they collapse currencies, they will buy up everything they didn’t manage to buy up during Covid and then install their new and beyond Orwellian financial surveillance grid in place, using Bitcoin as a reserve asset.

The US government, Silicon Valley and Wall Street bankers – who have economically and sometimes militarily waged war against much of the world – are using Bitcoin for this and are buying up media influence to manufacture consent. As a consequence of the purchase of Bitcoin media, most bitcoiners, instead of being up in arms about it and putting momentum behind any potential workaround, are spending time shilling Tether and explaining away their overt partnership with the US National Security State, shills for dollarized debt posing as anti-state and anti-bank.

UH's series The Chain, by myself and @markgoodw_in, has been exploring these issues and more, new installment (and the spiciest thus far) drops tomorrow.

Consultation on a new Public Health Bill for Northern Ireland

It is proposed that the new Bill will:

  • include all infection and contamination that present, or could present, a significant harm to human health. This all hazards approach aligns with the legislative frameworks in other UK jurisdictions;

  • align with the World Health Organization International Health Regulations published in 2005;

  • update certain powers around restrictions on employment, quarantine, isolation and medical examination;

  • clarify roles and responsibilities for different authorities; and;

  • ensure that powers to intervene are proportionate to the public health risk and therefore compatible with the Human Rights Act 1998.

NORTH KOREA TO “EXPONENTIALLY” INCREASE NUKES

North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un said during a speech on Monday that the country will launch a nuclear force construction policy designed to “exponentially” increase the number of weapons held.

He said North Korea must focus on its "nuclear capability and its readiness to use it properly at any given time in ensuring the security rights of the state.” This focus will enable the country to handle "the various threats posed by the United States and its followers," he added.

RUSSIA BEGINS LARGE-SCALE NAVAL EXERCISES; CHINA ATTENDS

Russia began large Naval exercises today, with warships maneuvering in the Mediterranean, Caspian Sea, Baltic Sea, and the Pacific. The drills will involve more than 400 Russian warships and submarines. The exercises are dubbed “Ocean-2024.”

Russia’s Defense Ministry said in a statement that, alongside the Naval vessels, "more than 120 aircraft and helicopters... about 7,000 units of weapons, military and special equipment, and more than 90,000 personnel” will participate.

China has sent four ships to participate in exercises near Vladivostok, and is expected to send additional ships for various parts of the exercises.

China’s state-run Xinhua media outlet said the exercises were to deepen "the level of strategic coordination between the Chinese and Russian militaries and enhance their ability to jointly respond to security threats".

The exercises will run through 16 September.

INFLATION CONTINUES TO MODERATE

US consumer prices rose slightly in August per data released today, showing a climb of 0.2%. The CPI also increased 0.2% in July. Housing costs and airfares increased more than expected, while fuel and used car prices dropped.  Food prices were largely unchanged.

Core CPI, which excludes food and energy, rose 0.3% which was slightly above estimates.

12-month core inflation figures are now at 3.2%, which is the lowest in three years as inflation continues to moderate.

Traders are now pricing in an 85% chance the Federal Reserve will implement a quarter point cut in the upcoming Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meetings.

IRAN’S FM DENIES MISSILE TRANSFERS TO RUSSIA

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi wrote on X today that ballistic missiles had not been transferred to Russia, despite claims by US intelligence and an Iranian lawmaker.

"Once again, US and E3 act on faulty intelligence and flawed logic. Iran has NOT delivered ballistic missiles to Russia. Period... Sanctions are not a solution, but part of problem," he wrote. The E3 is Britain, France and Germany.

US officials have maintained that Fath-360 missiles, with a range of about 75 miles, have been sent.

The US and E3 nations imposed additional sanctions on Iran Tuesday as a result of the intelligence.

TOP US, UK OFFICIALS IN KYIV

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy arrived in Kyiv Wednesday morning for meetings with Ukrainian government officials. Secretary Blinken told media he wanted face-to-face meetings with President Volodymyr Zelensky in order to clarify Ukraine’s goals in the conflict and see how the US might better aid the country’s efforts.

Media sources are reporting that both Blinken and Lammy intend to push for more strategic information from Ukraine, especially regarding its incursion into Russia. These discussions are also likely to include requests by Ukrainian officials to allow deeper strikes into Russia with Western-provided weapons, which is a request that has already been made on many occasions.

President Zelensky will travel to the US later this month in order to meet with President Joe Biden and the two Presidential candidates in order to present a plan to theoretically end the war.

US ACCUSES CHINA OF “VERY SUBSTANTIAL” MILITARY AID TO RUSSIA

The United States has accused China of providing “very substantial” aid to Russia’s defense industry. US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell told journalists that China is sending known dual-use technology and equipment to Russia, which is then being used for military purposes.

"These are basically being applied directly to the Russian war machine,” he said.

"These are component pieces of a very substantial effort on the part of China to help sustain, build and diversify various elements of the Russian war machine. We're seeing efforts at the highest levels of both governments to try to both hide and protect certain elements of this worrisome collaboration... Most of these activities have been driven underground."

He went on to say that "the capabilities that Russia is providing is support in areas where previously they had been frankly reluctant to engage directly with China. We are concerned about a particular number of military arenas where there appears to be some determination to provide China with greater support. That has to do with submarine operations, activities of aeronautical design, including stealth; that also involves capacities on missile capabilities.”

POLICE, PROTESTORS CLASH OUTSIDE DEFENSE EXPO

Police in Melbourne, Australia, clashed with protestors today outside of the biennial Land Forces International Defense Exposition. The protestors were largely anti-war and pro-Palestinian, and threw rocks, manure, bottles, and red liquid at police and some attendees. Security forces responded with sponge grenades, tear gas and similar sprays, and flash-bangs.

About 24 police officers needed medical attention, and 39 protestors were arrested.

"This is the type of disgusting behavior that we saw today from a group who were intent on confronting us," said Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police Shane Patton. "If you wish to come and protest, do so peacefully. We will not tolerate criminal behavior."

The defense exposition will run through Friday, and features about 1,000 exhibits from 31 nations.

CONTROVERSIAL JUDICIAL REFORM BILL PASSES IN MEXICO

Mexico’s Senate gave final approval to a sweeping judicial reform bill Wednesday. The law will go into effect once it has been published in the country’s official gazette. The bill was heavily pushed by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, despite warnings by the United States and Canada that the move may undermine trade pacts and open up the judiciary to influence by cartels and criminal gangs.

At one point, demonstrators against the bill broke into the Senate building which led to a temporary lockdown. They were quickly removed by police, as thousands more chanted and waved signs outside.

The bill requires judges be elected by popular vote, including those on the Supreme Court. Elections for judges will be held in June 2025 for the majority, with some not until 2027. The bill also reduces the number of Supreme Court justices from 11 to 9, enforces a term limit of 12 years, removes the minimum age requirement, and drops the required work experience to 5 years.

30 years, huh?

Bill Gates says the world is facing two options: A ‘major war’ or another pandemic in less than 30 years

There are some questions that keep even billionaire philanthropist and entrepreneur Bill Gates up at night. Will there be another pandemic? Are global tensions going to reach a boiling point, sparking a global war? What would push us to that precipice?

While Gates, a father of three, is determinedly optimistic about the likes of AI and eradicating deadly diseases like polio, he remains concerned about either a widespread war or another pandemic.

BlackRock Issues Serious Fed Warning As Crypto Suddenly Braces For A Predicted 50% Bitcoin Price Crash

The bitcoin price has climbed back toward $60,000 per bitcoin after dropping toward $50,000 due to "extreme fear" taking hold of the market.

Now, as traders search for signs the market could be headed for recovery, analysts with the world's largest asset manager and bitcoin spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) issuer BlackRock have warned they see more "volatility flare-ups ahead," and predicted the Fed won't cut rates as quickly as markets expect.

"We see multiple factors driving market volatility: resurgent recession fears due to some softer economic data, pre-U.S. election jitters and profit-taking as investors make room for new stock issues," BlackRock Investment Institute strategists led by Jean Boivin wrote in a note, adding: "We don’t see the Federal Reserve cutting policy rates as sharply as markets expect."

The bitcoin price surged higher yesterday along with the stock market as traders await more inflation data this week that will likely set up the Federal Reserve for an either 25 basis point or 50 basis point interest rate cut next week.

The Fed is widely expected to cut interest rates when officials gather for the two-day policy meeting on September 17, its first post-pandemic era cut that could herald a new cycle of cheaper borrowing and fresh liquidity.

Samsung To Reportedly Slash Global Workforce By Up To 30% In Certain Divisions Amid Intense Competition From Apple, Huawei

Samsung Electronics SSNLF, the world’s top producer of smartphones, TVs, and memory chips, is reportedly planning to reduce its overseas workforce in some divisions by up to 30%. The South Korea-based tech giant has instructed its global subsidiaries to decrease sales and marketing staff by around 15% and administrative staff by up to 30%.

What Happened: The job reductions, expected to be executed by the end of the year, will impact jobs across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa, Reuters reported on Wednesday. However, the exact number of employees to be laid off and the countries and business units to be most affected remain uncertain. Samsung clarified that these workforce adjustments are routine and aimed at improving efficiency, with no specific targets and no impact on production staff.

As of 2023’s end, Samsung had a total of 267,800 employees, with over half, or 147,000 employees, based overseas. The company’s India operation, which employs around 25,000 people, could see up to 1,000 job cuts. In China, about 30% of the sales operation workforce is expected to be affected.

Bigger than Blackwater: Privatization of security goes worldwide

US$248 billion global market for private security services is – for better or worse – reshaping law enforcement nearly everywhere

In August 2024, due to a US$4 million budget shortfall, Idaho’s Caldwell School District terminated its $296,807 contract with the local police department, opting instead for armed guards from Eagle Eye Security.

The new $280,000 contract is just a drop in the bucket of the roughly $50 billion US private security industry and the $248 billion global market that is reshaping law enforcement worldwide.

While private military companies (PMCs) like Blackwater (now Academi) and Wagner have gained notoriety in war zones, private security companies (PSCs) are rapidly expanding in non-combat settings.

Despite some overlap between the two, PSCs generally protect assets and individuals. Often collaborating with law enforcement, the effectiveness and ethical standards of PSCs vary widely, and armed guards are increasingly common. Security guards in the US in 2021 outnumbered police by about 3:2.

Public policy is still playing catch up. Unlike police forces, PSCs operate under contract rather than direct taxpayer funding. They also don’t have the same level of regulation, oversight, or accountability.

Criticisms of the police—such as excessive force and inadequate training—are frequently directed at private security officers as well. Many former police officers with controversial histories find employment in PSCs, where barriers to entry are low. Turnover, meanwhile, remains high, while wages are minimal. Yet the sector’s ongoing expansion appears inevitable.

Government forces and private security forces have been a part of society for millennia. Government forces mainly responded to unrest rather than preventing crime, often relying on volunteers.

Private security options included hiring guards and bounty hunters, while communal efforts like the “hue and cry”—where villagers collectively chased down criminals— were also common ways of enforcing security.

With increasing urbanization, though, traditional law enforcement methods became less effective, prompting the creation of the first modern police force, the London Metropolitan Police, in 1829. Distinct from the military, more accountable to city authorities and business interests, and focused on crime prevention, this model was adopted by Boston in 1838 and spread to nearly all US cities by the 1880s.

The emergence of public police forces coincided with the birth of the modern private security industry. Founded in the US in 1850, the Pinkerton National Detective Agency, as it was eventually called, is considered the first modern PSC.

With its nationwide reach, investigative expertise, and role in safeguarding companies, Pinkerton distinguished itself by protecting businesses from theft, vandalism, and sabotage.

China to train thousands of overseas law enforcement officers to create ‘more fair’ world order

Minister for public security made comments at forum that is part of efforts by ruling Communist party to position itself as a global security leader

China will train thousands of foreign law enforcement officers so as to see the world order “develop in a more fair, reasonable and efficient direction”, its minister for public security has said.

“We will [also] send police consultants to countries in need to conduct training to help them quickly and effectively improve their law enforcement capabilities,” minister Wang Xiaohong told an annual global security forum.

Wang Xiaohong made the announcement in the eastern city of Lianyungang on Monday in front of law enforcement representatives from 122 countries, regions and international organisations such as Interpol.

The forum is part of ongoing efforts by China’s ruling Communist party to position itself as a global security leader. In 2022 China’s leader, Xi Jinping, launched the Global Security Initiative (GSI), which centres China as a facilitator to “improve global security governance … and promote durable peace”.

Some human rights groups have raised concerns that recent training programs for African police officers introduce Communist party-style authoritarian tactics, and are heavily focused on protecting Chinese commercial interests in those countries – often connected to China’s state-run foreign investment program, the belt and road initiative.

Public reports of Monday’s speech did not provide details on the officers or countries to receive the training, or where the training would occur.

Beijing has linked the GSI to its brokering of agreements between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and the development of its peace proposal for the Ukraine war. It is seen by analysts as a vehicle to reshape the current US-dominated world order.

The GSI concept appears to include a run of bilateral security and policing agreements made with developing nations in recent years, particularly in Africa and the Indo-Pacific.

Last year, Beijing said the GSI sought to encourage greater cooperation between tertiary-level military and police academies, and was “willing to provide other developing countries with 5,000 training opportunities in the next five years to train professionals for addressing global security issues”.

Monday’s announcement suggests that number is increasing, with Wang noting that China has already trained 2,700 foreign law enforcement officers in the past year.

Last week after a China-Africa forum, Beijing announced it will train 1,000 more police enforcement officers for the African continent “and jointly ensure the safety of cooperation projects and personnel”. It was not immediately clear if those 1,000 officers are included in the 3,000 cited by Wang on Monday.

On Tuesday, Wang addressed the China-central Asia summit on public security and met senior officials from the five attendant nations. He said they had agreed to strengthen ties including efforts to “deepen law enforcement and security cooperation”, and to “focus on the vision of universal security and enhance the ability of joint operations against terrorism and transnational crime”.

In July, the president of Timor Leste, Jose Ramos Horta, visited Beijing and signed a new partnership agreement with Xi, including to “enhance exchanges at all levels between the military and police forces, strengthen cooperation in such areas as personnel training, equipment technology, the conduct of joint exercises and training, police affairs and law enforcement”.

In 2022 an agreement with the Solomon Islands to boost cooperation with China on “law enforcement and security matters” sparked alarm among the US and other western allies, including other Pacific nations. In the wake of the Solomons agreement the then foreign minister Wang Yi attempted to create a regional agreement with around a dozen Pacific nations but was rebuffed.

China's cloud-seeding experiment leads to unexpected 76mph storm and flying underwear

A megacity in China has been hit by an "underwear crisis" after authorities fired rockets into the sky in a bid to make it rain and end a two-week heatwave...

China recently launched a not-so-secret submarine to spy on the US, and now they've launched cloud-seeding missles to help combat a heatwave.

A storm of underwear erupted in the megacity of Chongqing, which was targeted with artificially-created rain last Monday.

The human intervention into the persistent dry weather resulted in gusts of 76mph blasting residents' laundry from their balconies in what has been humorously referred to as "the 9/2 Chongqing underwear crisis," reports Daily Star.

Videos of undergarments soaring through the sky before crash landing on streets and tree branches were shared on Chinese social media as the skies opened up.

Ethele, a resident of Chongqing, posted on Weibo: "I just went out and it suddenly started to rain heavily and underwear fell from the sky."

The owner of an expensive Calvin Klein set that was swept away in the storm asked: "Who's going to compensate me for my emotional damage?"

One Weibo user humorously suggested the wild storm could spark a romance, joking: "It's actually quite romantic. You might even pick up your crush's underwear while taking a walk on the street."

Another victim of the blown away underwear admitted to "laughing like crazy" despite the incident turning him into a "lifelong introvert."

The desperation that led authorities to take such drastic measures was driven by more than a week of extreme temperatures that delayed the reopening of schools and universities.

Zhang Yixuan, the deputy director of the Chongqing Weather Modification Office, insisted that the wind was a natural occurrence and not a result of the cloud seeding.

Zhang stated: "There are definitely strong winds, but this is caused by natural conditions. Artificial rainfall will not cause extreme weather."

One person commented, "The people of Chongqing will never forget this heavy day,".

In a bid to combat the heat, Chongqing officials took an unusual approach - they fired nearly 200 rockets into the sky. The cloud-seeding technology seemed to work wonders.

However, as rain began to pour on Monday, so did underwear from the city residents' washing lines. Despite this, authorities deny any link between the rockets and the sudden windstorm.

On Weibo, the hashtag "underwear crisis" was viewed seven million times, but it was outdone by another hashtag suggesting "if you think you messed up at work, just think of the Chongqing Meteorological Bureau", which garnered 18 million engagements.

The US Navy is about to launch a submarine built for a mixed-gender crew, the first of its kind

- The USS New Jersey, designed for a co-ed crew, is set to join the US fleet on Saturday.

- A ban on women serving on US submarines was lifted in 2010, leading to hundreds joining the service.

- Future US submarines will be gender-neutral, addressing privacy and space issues for co-ed crews.

- A submarine designed to fully integrate male and female sailors is set to join the US fleet on Saturday

Who exactly are these new housing additions being built for?

English councils poised to get powers to buy greenbelt land without overpaying

Landowners would be given ‘fair but not excessive return’ for sites compulsorily purchased for housing

Councils and public bodies in England are poised to be handed powers to enable them to buy greenbelt land without overpaying as part of the government’s drive to build 1.5m homes by 2030.

Greenbelt landowners who are unwilling to sell would face compulsory purchase orders (CPOs) that would force them to hand over their land if the site could host a “quality housing scheme” in the public interest.

Under the proposed rules, which are being consulted on, these landowners could be forced to sell at a capped benchmark value that the government has said will provide “fair but not excessive return” for the landowner, as well as “maximising community benefits”.

The proposals come two weeks after the deputy prime minister, Angela Rayner, set out wide-reaching planning and housing policy reforms aimed at accelerating housebuilding.

These included the introduction of new mandatory housing targets for councils, under which authorities would have to identify enough land in their local plans to meet housing need.

In some areas this would result in significant increases in the number of new homes required, such as the north-west of England, whose target rose from 21,500 to just under 38,000 homes, and the east of England, where the target rose from 35,000 to nearly 45,000.

The changes also included a call for councils to review greenbelt areas for development if needed to meet housing targets. The government said it wanted to take a “more strategic approach to [greenbelt] land designation”.
