Also, I think I was mistaken when I was talking about the price of this stuff the last time. The regular price, at least at Fred Meyer, is $6.50.

i HATE the flute

Playing sax in HS, we had to sit behind the flutes.

Every lame ass chick wanted to play flute so there was literally a million of them.

And none of them knew how to play.

Every day a fucking misery.

The Circuit Court I used to live at would drop probably 200lbs of salt per day on the sidewalk out side of every entrance. There was no avoiding the destruction.

Today, shoes are not required for most of my appearances.

Cuffed pants are never coming back.

I played sax in JH (band & jazz band) then gave it up for guitar in HS and stopped doing band. Never really got annoyed with the flutes, but I could see it being personal taste. She plays classical stuff, not really band stuff at all, and is really good. Given the right song and a good day it has brought a tear to my eye on occasion.

I love the Airman - bought one even, but the hands were put on incorrectly and since Invicta acquired them they apparently hadn't figured out how to service them at the authorized service center. So I had to send it back twice, and they scratched the hell out of the crystal the second time. I wish I had just asked for an exchange right off the bat before I got soured and got a refund as I really liked the watch. The 24 hour hand was .5 hr off from the regular hands and all they had to do was pop it off and put it back on.

I know a guy whose interest in the sale of a company was 240 million. His house is massive and his wife gave him a very expensive watch as an anniversary gift (which he wears) but besides that, their vehicles are unassuming US brands and a few years old. He dresses like anyone else and his suits look like he bought them at goodwill.

I tend to think that marketing pushes people into luxury brands. Both those who can afford it and those who can’t.

One of the wealthiest guys (relativistic wealth, this was podunk rural IA we're talking about) I knew back when I was a teen, drove an early-80's Chevy truck with rust holes so bad you could see completely through the truck bed. They had a decent house but dressed in polos and jeans.

I ended up with a thousand dollar suit for two job interviews also.  I didn't get either one of them
I think I probably could have cut the price in half or better if I knew what I was looking at at the time.

I don't come from suit people so I went to a store that sold suits (might be men's warehouse?) and bought a suit, got it fitted and two ties and two shirts.   If I had to do it now, I'd probably buy the pants, shirt and jacket from Kohl's and take them to a taylor and have them fitted.(I can't see me needing a suit often enough to justify buying "nice" suits, it'd be for a one time event, like the job interviews. Lol)

Having them fitted makes a big difference in both comfort and presentation.

For some people, like most of Michigan, an expensive suit is still cheaper than plastic surgery and thus an attempt to look better (though the old saying comes to mind, you can't polish a...)

For intermittent or limited use, yes, a cheap suit from Kohl's (w i s c o n s i n) that has been tailored may be totally in order. The tailoring is important on a suit. It hangs so much better just with little changes. This presents noticeably better and is more comfortable for the wearer.

However, cheaper suits are typically made with cheaper materials. For regular use, a good worsted wool or silk is really better and typically not available at non suit stores.

Out of necessity my suit collection has grown over the years and I can honestly say my suits or more comfortable and have better temperature regulation than my regular dress clothes. It's the right tool for the job.

Maybe a little parable is in order for a non suit person who doesn't fully appreciate why anyone would spend more than $100 on a suit.

When I was a contractor I would use a hammer all day long. Generally. When we were framing I would use my Paslode, but I would still need to swing a hammer a lot and sometimes before the generator would get there or electric was run, I would need to swing that hammer all day.

So the search ensued for the perfect hammer. I had Estwings, and they worked, but by the end of the day, they would wear on you. None of them was more than $30 I don't think. (there are many more options for hammers now than there were back in the day at various price points).

Tried a few different ones. None grabbed me.

Then I found Stiletto. 14oz titanium head California framer handle, when swung had the force of a 24oz steel head.  I could swing that thing all day long, drive the nails straighter with fewer swings and still have an arm at the end of the day. It was like an extension of my hand, felt so natural. IIRC it was $80-90, which at the time struck me as a lot for a hammer, but damn if it wasn't worth it.

I'm sure most of the guys here can appreciate having the right tool for the job.

Suit is the same thing. You need to look the part, you need to be comfortable. There isn't one type for everyone, there is a spectrum.

That doesn't mean it has to be super expensive. Just like with our shiny knives, there is a point of diminishing returns unless there is something special about the item that really speaks to you or a visually appreciable difference. I don't think any of my suits are more than $350-400.

You obviously know all this though, I am responding more to others here who I know are wondering why.

Thank you for proving my point.

Great song ruined by a. fucking. whistle.
