I bought out all the Golden Saber 9mm +p+ from a local gun store that was going out of business about 12 years ago. About 2,500 rounds at the time. Every year I shoot a few magazines through my Glocks all pulled from random boxes to test function, chrono and grouping and it’s all good. Still my go to defense/carry pistol load.

As long as it’s stored in a dry place it will last longer than you.

True.  I’m more concerned with moisture (from sweat), and occasionally secure one inside a vehicle with 160*F interior temp

Like I said... probably overkill.  But shooting stuff is fun

This. All the OP bought was old, unbonded, uncoated brass cased, SXTs with a Nyclad coating. The modern PDX is much better. Bullet technology has made some significant bounds since BTs were on the market.

Nyclad was the Federal round. The Black Talon coating was the black colored Lubaloy.

I wasn't aware that Remington loaded the Golden Saber at +P+, only the +P.

I thought it pretty much just got renamed, repackaged and sold as something new a few years later.
Can not remember the name though.
Found it - bonded PDX1.

.44 mag version, shot with a Ruger Carbine....

Passed through a javelina, dropping it almost immediately.  While waiting for it's blood to cool, so the bugs would bail off, I noticed a shiny spot on the barrel cactus that was right behind him.  I looked on the other side of it (roughly 14" in diameter), and it almost passed though it too!

Picture perfect expansion!

I just bought 24 mint condition boxes of Black Talon in .40 and 9 mm. How long do I have to hold it before it's worth $10,000 in cold hard cash?

Seriously?!?

I have a few mint boxes of that stuff I bought new.  I planed on shooting it some day.

There is a reason why Texas DPS dropped  it like a bad habit. Things didn't perform worth a damn.

ETA: As my dad put it back in the day, "they dug bullets out of people that could have been reloaded." And why they went to the 357 Sig.

While not exactly the same bullet, the Core-Lokt Ultra Bonded is arguably one of the best defensive loads in .225/5.56 these days.

I used to watch shitloads of ammo tests, through ballistics gel and meat targets.
Ranger T is far from the best performing ammo out there, because of expansion reliability.
You need more velocity for good expansion, and often the 147gr fail to expand at all.

Also many of tests through ballistics gel were decent, but meat tests were often terrible.
There is a lot of reality shown by meat tests, because ballistics gel is similar to shooting water in my opinion, its a dense perfectly uniform medium,
where as in reality there is a lot of variance in target makeup to include clothing, skin, lung/ organ tissue and bone.
