Pet owners are kitting their dogs out with spiked BODY ARMOR to stop them being eaten by hungry bald eagles
The predatorial birds have taken to hunting geese and chickens all across North America, leaving pet owners fearful for their cats and dogs
Some have taken to kitting out their animals in spiked body armor to try and protect their furry friends from being snatched
Conservation efforts, including the banning of chemicals like DDT, have allowed America's national bird to be removed from the endangered species list
It remains illegal to kill or possess a bald eagle without a permit

My mother was raised on the Canadian border in North Dakota back in the 1920’s. She was deathly afraid of eagles. As a little girl she witnessed an eagle attack that took the life of a new born child.

When you have to up-armor your yip dog, it might be time to contemplate a doggo upgrade.

No, it ripped a chunk of meat off and flew away, as I was told by one of her brothers.  Back then there were no paved roads, electricity, or running water in the county she grew up in. Everyone was still using horses and mules.

Big Goldens are worse then Balds. A old logger I know tells a story about falling timber on some steep ground and there was a sow bear with two cubs running around and playing  in the freshly fallen trees. They were just keeping a eye on them, the bears where in the stuff they fell the day before. 2 Goldens dove in and they both hit and grabbed the same cub (he says it was a 50-60lb cub, NOT small, more large dog sized) and they flew off with it down hill. They couldn't climb, but as steep as the ground was the land  was dropping away, faster than they where falling. They dropped the bear cub somewhere into the valley below, from something like 1,000 feet up. The sow freaked out, didn't know what happened looking everywhere for her cub. It was a OH shit, and they bailed and felt lucky to get away before mamma bear came after them. If those suckers will go after a bear cub, in a group of bears.... Don't think any dog would be safe if they decided they wanted it.

Wife has a chihuahua.   Second we let her outside the hawks circle and dive.  We also have eagles around but none have shown interest.

We might try these spiked suits...they're funny af.

There are a bunch of missing cat signs up in my area.  Just so happens there was an eagles nest not that far away, too.

Whole lot more likely to be great horned owls than eagles...especially bald eagles. GHOs eat things very similar in size to cats(lile skunks) and are found within territory of eagles. Bald eagles eat more fish than anything.

Some of the cats could be eagle victims but not all, or even most.

Friend had her Yorke eaten by a hawk or eagle.  She moved to the lake and I warned her.  She thought I was teasing her for having such a tiny dog.

We just moved to a lake home.  My daughter wanted to take our Maine Coon out in the huge back yard when we got here.  Told her under no circumstances is that cat allowed outside as I pointed to the eagles flying overhead.

By the time the eagle figures out the dog has armor the dog is going to be pretty fucked up anyway.

And baldies are really just prettied-up buzzards; can't imagine they count on foo-foo dogs as a steady part of their diet.

I agree that great horned owls are more likely to eat your pet than bald eagles. We have loads of both around here. BEs seem to eat mostly fish and carrion. They are always chowing the dead deer in the ditch. That said, my 40lb border collies don’t have any issues with either and neither do the barn cats.
