I absolutely love Belgian ales, but you can't quaff a liter of the Westy 12.

I'm sad that Olde Mecklenburg oversparged the first batch of their Oktoberfest. Astringent marzen is disappointing.

Spaten and Hacker Pschorr are my Octoberfest go to's.

Schneider Weisse Meine hopfenweisse Tap #5 rules them all IMO

It's a double bock, hopped wheat beer that's unfiltered. I love unfiltered beers though. One of the most complex, delicious beers out there, but it's only 8.2% ABV. Schneider Aventinus is a good one too.

Ayinger does some pretty good ones too.

German beer has to abide by the Reinheitsgebot. It's free of added flavors that aren't derived from the brewing process with certain ingredients, unlike some Belgian beers. All of the fruit flavors have to be brought out during the wheat fermenting to achieve the cross flavors naturally.

I love Paulaner Marzen, one of the hotel bars here had it on tap starting around mid-August till they shut down.

My favorite time of year for beer. Costco had these last week for $30 per case. I picked up two. Note, this is fest bier, not the more common Märzen style you see here in the US. It’s unbelievably good.

Same. Spaten is my go-to Oktoberfest but Paulaner will do.

They started here in Norther Indiana a couple weeks ago.
I've had Shiner Oktoberfest, Hofbrau Oktoberfest, and Samuel Adams October Fest so far.  Another store allegedly has Paulaner in stock so that's on the list for tomorrow's shopping.  So far, Sam Adams tops the list for me for 2024.

Love the Spaten and hofbrau Octoberfest biers.

Sierra Nevada's Octoberfest beer came in first and it's surprisingly really good. I'd say the best domestic Oktoberfest I've had.

Whats a damn shame is last year the mini kegs of Hofbrau Octoberfest were $19.99. This year? $30.99

Have a local place that stocks Tucher. Will have to see if their festbier is in stock. If not, their hefe is one of the best I've ever had (sorry Weihenstephaner).

Is it technically wrong to celebrate it year round?

I’m just finishing up last year’s Yuengling Oktoberfest.

We have a phenomenal brewery here in Grand Rapids that brews multiple German style beers. I may have to go there tomorrow.
