Who pulls a boat literally 400 miles in a day for a day on the lake?
View Quote
I live in SE MI.  My parents cottage is on St Joseph Island, Ontario, Canada.  Door to door 397 miles according to Google maps.  When I had my boat (a 16ft I/O runabout at approx. 1500 lbs) I towed it the full distance in one day.  I had to fill my mostly empty gas tank in Gaylord, MI.  But ten minutes later including the bathroom break we where back on the road again.

I don't know about other areas of the country but in MI it's no big deal for folks to tow their boat or 5th wheel or even tow a 5th wheel that's towing a small boat from the population centers in southern MI to vacation country in northern MI.

How's this thing do in 10 deg. F weather towing a trailer with four snowmobiles from S MI to the UP for a weekend of sledding?  Not well I suspect.  But I have plenty of friends who do this with their diesel or gas trucks.

Not really.

They've partnered with Rivian IIRC (which has a slick looking product) so there could be some sharing going on there.

I'm saying though that if they try to shoehorn an EV drivetrain/battery into an F-150 frame that it will be a sub-optimal EV. If they don't, then it won't have much of the cost savings.

The Rivian looks gay. The Tesla looks like it was designed by an 8 year old in 1982.

Could probably extend the range if you put a big enough gas powered generator in the back and kept it running and plugged in for the whole trip.

The Aeos concept Powertrain has a few options.

Completely battery powered.  Range up to like ~200 miles at 45000lbs.

Range extenders with either a 4.5L or 6.7L engine, at 75000lbs.  Optional solar panels for dedicated trailers.

This is the shell CNG/electric hybrid I believe.  Might be diesel option now too.

Same idea.  Generator powered.

Actually, it depends on what you mean by "shoehorn".  If you remove the gas tank, transmission, battery, radiator, and engine, there is a shit-ton of room in a post 2004 Ford frame.  If you are willing to use a "drop down" battery pan (think stock-car fuel cell) and go with a direct drive system front and rear, it wouldn't be a "perfect" solution, but it would definitely be a "good enough" solution.
