Whoever it was, they had a pretty good story about it. IIRC, the guy said they were all at some party or something one night. The ARFCOMer was outside, got away from the group and decided to take a leak. Wes Studi wanders up next to him and in a real serious tone says, "You know you're pissing on the graves of my ancestors...". The ARFCOMer said, "I'm just making sure they're well watered." Wes dropped the serious tone and had a good laugh with him.

That wolf, named Two Socks, ended up in North AL at the now defunct Limestone Zoo. As part of the Boy Scouts years ago, we visited the zoo and saw Two Socks.

The zookeeper said that the wolf only had two skills or followed two commands and you saw both of them in the movie. He also said the wolf was a little nuts. Being confined to a small (for a wolf) space like he was probably didn't help either. I'm sure he's dead by now, this was close to a good 20 years or so ago.

the scene where the tropps are shooting at the wolf then run to the hill crest with the war party just opposite of them prone is just fucking scary as hell. to me.
