Having RDJ play Doctor Doom in an Avengers film is a smart choice (at least in terms of box office).

I guess he’ll be a Tony Stark variant?

The fact that it’s happening during the minivan fight scene makes it even funnier.

Well they had to do something.  D&W, Spider-Man, and Guardians 3 are the only good Marvel movies they've really had since End Game.  The rest just turned people off of the MCU because the winning formula of "all these movies are building to something bigger" wasn't there.  Strange 2, Thor L&T, that shitty gurl power movie, etc were total crap.

I think there are rumors floating around that Star Wars is going to have a Luke Skywalker renaissance, because they can't stop pretending that purple-haired girl bosses sell.

There is no town or city IN THE WORLD that has a high-end theater big enough to pack 200+ people in which I’d prefer watching a film for the first time next to 200+ random strangers instead of watching it with a few friends and/or family members.

Again, YMMV.

I'm 71 and jaded with all the chop socky, CGI animation masturbation fest, and fist/gun fights that go on and on and on and on etc...

All of the superhero movies all blur into one big boring blur except for one:

Deadpool.  Smartass Ryan Reynolds fits the part perfectly.  I buy DVDs of those movies that I really like.  Deadpool and Wolverine will be added to my collection that the kids are gonna have to deal with after I kick the bucket...

or maybe I'll have them bury me with them...

The reason bringing back RDJ MIGHT work is because the actor is well-loved, still in his 50s, and had one of the most iconic send offs in modern cinema.  Also the MCU use to be pretty entertaining. Disney’s Star Wars has been a shitshow since day one.

Mark Hamill is in his 70s and is about as likeable as a cancer diagnosis,  I guess they could bring in someone else to play Luke in a prequel or whatever, but that wouldn’t have the same draw and, besides, Disney already ruined Luke Skywalker.

Dr Strange 2 made $955 million.
Thor 4 made $760 million.
Black Panther 2 made $859 million.
The Eternals and Black Widow tanked but they also came out during COVID.
The only big busts for Marvel have been Ant Man 3 and the Marvels.

A lot of people don’t seem to realize that a film needs to roughly make 3x its budget before it starts to make a profit for the studio.

$600M box office would be fantastic for a film with a budget of $100M or less.  However, for a film with a $200M budget, it’d be about breaking even.

MCU films typically have massive budgets.

Michael Peña wasn’t allowed to be Michael Peña in Ant Man 3.  He was the best part of the series.  Ergo, it deserved to fail.

DP3 knows what it is, plays to its strengths (dick and fart joke -level humor, Ryan Reynolds doing his thing), and knows its audience (mostly nerdy guys).  Ergo, it deserves to succeed.  Note- lack of Weasel was a disappointment.

I have teenagers that fell in love with Star Wars when Lucas was still in charge.

It's been a shame seeing them become disenfranchised with it while they are still young and imaginative.

With the exception of the consoomers in the megathread, we've all been given a black pill by Disney.

Not only a lack... but a noticeably absent fourth-wall-break reference to said lack.

I really enjoyed Deadpool / Wolverine.
Awesome cameos, funny Deadpool humor, breaking 4th wall, etc.
But in retrospect, the plot and storyline were weak.  The Void planet didn't really add much to the story, in my opinion
Still a fun movie.

They made money, yes, because people went to the theater hoping they'd be good.  What I said is they weren't building toward anything which means those films didn't inspire the Marvel audience to keep going to movies.

Knowing there's a cool new big baddie and a wider story arch that the movies are building toward is what was needed.  That's why they brought in Kang, which failed even before Majors' fuck up, and have now switched to Doom with RDJ.

Beyond great writing, directing, and perfect casting, the first decade of the MCU was so successful because Thanos was the big bad guy pulling most of the strings and we all wanted to see how the next movie would advance the story leading to an eventual face off.  Marvel definitely fucked up with Captain Marvel, both the casting and making her too OP (she's like Marvel's Superman but without kryptonite), but otherwise they nailed the rest.

That one took me a second, until I saw the pattern.
Who's the guy with the glasses?

The dude who played Vader. Also famously in A Clockwork Orange.

Disney was even more desperate than people initially thought.

Dr Strange 2 made $955 million.
Thor 4 made $760 million.
Black Panther 2 made $859 million.
The Eternals and Black Widow tanked but they also came out during COVID.
The only big busts for Marvel have been Ant Man 3 and the Marvels.

Yeah, but we all know what's supposed to happen to Danvers.

Right?

If Marvel is smart, they'll reboot her or pretend she never existed.  They're doing it with Kang/Majors and Brie Larson is just as toxic, if not more so.  You can tell in interviews her costars hate her as much as the fans do.

Yeah, Rogue

Now that the X-Men are in the MCU, it could happen.

And since it's a female taking out a female, woke shit shouldn't apply.

I feel like they missed the boat on that.  The optimum time was for endgame.

They could have had her first movie end with her encounter with rogue.  (it would have been a short cameo type role.  So renting it from fox/sony wouldn't have been a big deal)

Considering how it goes down in the 90's cartoon.  She would have been flying a plane. It would have perfectly modeled Roger's sacrifice.  Then the act of rogue probably being disappeared in the "blink".

would allow her sudden appearance in endgame out of nowhere.  Change her hero suit to a hospital gown and it's works perfectly.

But doing it now just to remove the character from future projects works. I just don't see the point when they can just not fund those movies. I think Larson understands she's not wanted and no longer wants to be in the role anymore.

Damn good, in canon way to kill her off.

Win Win.

(The only good thing about the Captain Marvel movie was the alien cat creature)

Anybody seen it more than once?

My son and I are going in the morning, his first viewing.

And I got a new shirt to wear to the theater:

Just got back. VERY entertaining.

LOTS of Easter eggs.

And I swear to god, after they escaped from the void bitches place, and they’re wandering around, they walk right by the burnt out car from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

There are total of 43 Cameos and Easter Eggs.

A lot of the cameos were very minor parts with the same actor that played the character 25 years ago.

And the void doesn't belong to the bitch.  The TVA just lets her rent it.

Still a fun movie.

Saw it this morning with my son and thought it was fun movie.  Afterwards though, it does feel a bit like Reynolds and the writers sat around putting together a list of all the characters/people they wanted to put in it, all the jokes they wanted to make, and then wrote the plot/storyline after the fact trying to piece them all together.

I'm pretty sure that's how they did all three Deadpool movies.

The scene in DP1 where he's sitting on the overpass, listening to the radio, was a Redband trailer a couple of years before the movie came out.

That’s not that uncommon.

The last few Mission Impossible movies, they specifically dreamed up a bunch of cool stunts and then designed the movies around the stunts.
