Back many years ago my first couple of centerfire pistols were Ruger Blackhawks . Still have them but don't shoot them much. Mostly shoot double actions.
The one recent single action purchase that is generally the one shot most is a 4" 44sp. Just a nice balance of size , weight and power . 44 sp is a great cartridge and easy to load for if you can get primers.

Some folks like the slow , simple cadence of a single action , some folks are very aggravated by that slowness when compared to double actions.

I believe I would advise most folks who don't have a bunch of pistols to spend their money in getting double actions first and then somewhere down the line getting the single action . Of course if you get a single action you really need a lever gun in the same caliber to go with it

I bought a Cimarron on a whim when Gander was clearing out their icky guns. It was like 25% off, and I always kind of wanted a SAA but didn't really want to spend the $ on one.

It's a cool gun but I had to sent it back to get repaired. Waiting for it to come back as we speak.

FYI Cimarron was the importer but the gun is actually a Pietta.

If I could do it again I would just save for a ruger or used colt.

Probably not there anymore, they sell fast.  A friend bought one and I loaded .45C for him.  It shoots to point of aim and is an excellent firearm.  I lust for one in .38 spl.

No way I could let my friend buy factory ammo at current prices.  500 pieces of brass and projectiles mucho cheaper:

Now, I want a .45C, real Colt, 4 3/4" 1873.  I should never have bought those dies.

I'd like a single action some day, but I would go with something different. SAAs are kinda played out.

Why not a Remington clone?

Or S&W

Although my first choice would be to build a snubnose Walker conversion in .45 BPM

Which is to bad. It was pretty common with revolvers.

Yes.  It's a must have.

Get the Colt SAA if you can.  (If Gen 3 perhaps avoid the non-removable bushing models)

Super weapons and have increased in value over the years...

3 .44 Special
2 .44 Special/.44-40 convertibles
5 .45 Colt
1 .38-40
1 .22LR
2 .36 BP
1 .44 BP

I like lever actions too!

Yes, you do. SA revolvers are a direct link to our “old west” past, even if just a well made replica.

One of these days, I want to get a stainless 6-7” .357 Blackhawk. It just grabs me for some reason.

I picked up this one last year. 7th Cavalry commermorative. It is fun to shoot.

George Armstrong Custer’s 7th Cavalry Model. The Custer 7th Cavalry Model is a very accurate copy of the first U.S. Gov’t models of 1873. These early firearms are inspected for ordinance by civilian inspector Orville W. Ainsworth, shipped to Ft. Lincoln and used by troops of the 7th Cavalry

under the command of Gen. George Armstrong Custer. Each authentic firearm is properly marked with “Ainsworth” inspection markings, OWA Cartouche, 2 line patent dates and U.S. on the frame. Stamped into the butt of the backstrap is the company and 7th Cavalry markings. Production of

this model is limited to 2000 units each of the 5 companies (C,E,F,I,L) that will perish under Custer’s command at Little Big Horn.

I picked up a 1960's era JP Sauer & Sohn Western Marshall in .45 LC a few years ago for $350.

Ruger blackhawk 357 4 5/8" barrel
New geometry frames and grips done by Ronnie Wells,  he also did a bobbed hammer and different trigger & guard.

RDW grip frames are amazing. Completely changed the feel of this pistol, it fits my hand and fires like a cap gun.

Yes. Everyone needs a single action, or two or three.

Nice! I love mine too. It's not easy to get a good pic of the colors with a cell phone. They're beautiful in person.

I'll admit that I've been calling Ruger to see if they'll install a round trigger guard frame for it. They always say "Yes, we do work like that, just not right now. Check back later." Then I'll have Chig's make some grips for it.

Super sweet. A twin in the wild!

Yeah its hard to get a good pic that does turnbulls color case hardening justice.

Honestly i dont mind the squared off trigger guard. Everyone says it bites them but i haven't had any issues even with hotter 44mag loads.

Out of all the .44 mags I own or have owned, it is the only one that bites my finger once in a while. I still love the gun though. No holster. It's a range toy. If I want to carry a .44 mag single action it will be my Vaquero with 5.5" barrel.

In all honesty i dont think ill ever really carry my super blackhawk as any sort of regular carry, too nice, i'd scratch it all up. Or give it holster wear. But feel like every handgun should have a holster of some sort. Just a thing i have i guess. Plus a nice western holster for it that matches how nice it is sounds cool to me.
