Wife, son, and I pedaling around the Puget sound in Hobie kayaks. We've taken them all over fresh or saltwater (including 2+ miles offshore looking for halibut and lingcod).

In a quest for more comfort, safety, and toys I brought home a 21' cuddy cabin boat. We've been too busy to get on the water with it yet but have been going through and upgrading electronics in preparation for overnight trips to the San Juan Islands, etc.

I am not 100 percent sure what people use them for.

They are for lifting the pontoons out of that water at the dock,  But people have been known to use them for anchoring at shallow sand bars so they can fish, get boozed up, whatever else.  In general for docking,  keeps the boat from getting banged up at the dock.

Not mine

There is a couple that live on one of the local lakes that have a Riva 33 docked.  Whenever we're fishing docks we always put a pause on tossing lures till we get well away from the thing.  Seeing it up close is enough to make you weak at the knees.

The guys wife bought it for him as an anniversary gift but she admitted one day to us that the only reason she bought it for him was because she always really wanted a Kris Kraft but stumbled on the 33 during her search and fell in love with it.

I would do horrible things to be out hunting bass, pike, and musky on a boat just like yours.

Funny thing is aside from a wonky trolling motor pedal my 1,800 dollar 35 Merc outboard setup probably does the job just as well for my purposes(inexperienced fisherman on lakes 400-1000 acres, no more, mostly drifting for pike) but holy hell do I want a serious bass boat.  When we were seriously looking at moving to Fon Du Lac I'd really want something better to get out on Lake Winnebago and cover ground better.

Of course if I were going to spend that kind of money on a boat I might just look at something used I could get out on Lake Michigan.

I envy those with actual working boats.  Mine is a LOOONG term project, originally bought in 1990 from a scrap yard in Barstow, CA.  This is how it looked when originally found.....

This was a few years ago but pretty much how it still looks today.  In the process of restoration but it has been slow.  Too slow but available time and money dictates the pace.

This what it looked like during its tour in Vietnam in 1970.  It's the one in the middle.  Officially, it's a Strike Assault Boat, or STAB.  Also known as a 24 foot utility boat, MkII.  Twenty two were built, with two remaining in the U.S. as training boats.  All the others served in Vietnam including hull No. 21.  These were the fastest boats in the delta and could hit 55 knots with a clean hull and two fresh 427 Chev. engines.  They were propelled by Mercruiser Group III outdrives with 19" props. Hopefully, we'll get it back in the water before I croak.

This one is not the 21 boat but gives a good idea how they look at speed.

Damnit, I've been eyeing these as a retirement gift to myself.
It’s been a great boat. Very versatile for a variety of uses. Since Yamaha went with the articulating rudder in 2016, these new jet boats don’t have the control issues previous jet boats had. I did add two additional fins to the nozzles for added maneuverability since my wife is the one takes the boat on and off the trailer. It handles like it’s on rails and acceleration is stupid fast. Fuel burn isn’t too bad. I think it’s around 8 gallons an hour at 25mph but if you open up the throttles all the way,  it will drink 26 gph @ 53mph.

If you have any other questions I’ll gladly answer them for you

We had a little Sundance which is very similar to the Carolina Skiff.  Both are flat bottom.  Great boats, but ride terrible in any sort of chop.

The Mako PS is an inverted V hull.  It has an unbelievable ride in the chop and is very stable.  I forget how small it is when we run it sometimes.  I bought it for my kids, but I enjoy it so much I hardly use my big boat anymore...
