Most of them only stop handgun rounds. The rifle rated shields are heavy. Think there were UHMWPE or whatever options last time I checked, but they were $$$$.
For SHTF, no way I would bother. They have limited applications for LE/mil. I've witness leadership insist on people lugging around a IIIa shield when the perp was known to be armed with a rifle. |

How about leadership running in with a IIIA shield into the middle of a gunfight against a guy armed with an AK? Of course this was the same chain of command where it was verboten to bring long guns to calls where the suspect was known to have a long gun. "Handguns only!" |
