I used to have a couple and sold them to buy a 1994 Porsche 911 speedster.

After a few years the only fun part of owning them was to let other people that haven't shot one shoot it.
Not worth the value anymore unless I was a billionaire.

Those two guns or this... They don't make sense anymore.
(speedster photo isn't mine, i sold them to get one but ended up putting it into a real estate thing.)
The only logical way to do it now is with a SOT.

The ROI just isn't there to own one at today's prices.

I remember when Macs were $3-4k. I should've bought one then, but I was broke and just getting started in my career. It wouldn't have made sense.

A machine gun costs $20-40k. I could buy a nice custom/high end Pistol, rifle, and shotgun and 10,000 rounds for each

Not yet, but it’s in the works as a $40,000.00 expense.

Fuck it; less than what I paid for my truck.

Depends on which MG.

I know of a place that had a MAC10 for $10k about 2 months ago, they may still have it...

HK21 Upgraded with E parts sold after shooting a few times one day as it was brutal and not meant to fired from the shoulder.
Picked up a RIA M60 which I upgraded to E3

MP5NA3 Double Push Pin RR
MP5KPDW Sear Gun
DIAS ran on COLT LMG Upper with Beta Drums
America 180
(2) Consecutive serial numbered SWD M-11's

and like an idiot I sold them all when my MG subgun group broke up.

Nope. I'd never get my worth out of it, even if they weren't crazy money.

If I really really wanted one, I could probably swing the cost, but it would be a big sacrifice that wouldn't be worth it to me.

I should probably spend the money on ammo and training

Yeah. Add another thousand or two in taxes CC fees stamps and shipping/insurance. And by itself it’s shitty  So a couple or three K more on lage stuff.

I’m quite happy to blow 6 bills each vegas trip at MGvegas

Doubt I'll ever be able to make it happen though.

Your poll isn’t going to be an accurate representation, since people who don’t own one will be less likely to enter the thread or vote.

Nah. Not sure I would either honestly, other than to simply have one handy for WTFEOTWBBQ

Shot enough of them to know they're only really fun so long as someone else is paying for the ammo

Of course, but not just one.    I can blame the ~2000 VA Shoot down in Farmville VA hosted by the late John Oliver for getting me hooked.

By the time I had any sort of disposable income in the mid-00s, M16 lowers and HK sears had already escalated beyond what I could afford.  Then Obama’s recession came and took that meager disposable income away.

I looked at the 07/02 SOT route a bit in the mid-10s but scrapped that plan since I had a young family to take care of, and building MGs would have been a net expense.

Much like boat ownership - you don't wanna own it and the hassles, you want a good friend who does :)

We've got a local range that hosts the retiree-laden group of lads who have a penchant for machine gun collecting.  They do a group shoot about every 3-4 months.  It is fucking cool.

Personally, it is also probably the most money I've ever seen fly through the air in one moment.

I do not own any machine guns. Unfortunately, I never will own any machine guns.

The only machine gun I have fired was a 1919a4 (.30-06).  It was pretty fucking cool.

And 10 years from now when macs are $30,000 people will be saying “I remember when macs were $10k.” People have been saying they are over priced for years, they are, but the population is increase, number of gun owners is increasing but the number of machine guns is fixed, and actually going down slightly. We’ve lost 10k of the 186k MG that are transferable. Prices have no where to go but up unless some legislation is passed either banning them out right or repealing the NFA and/or Hughes amendment.

You could also just pay cash and avoid CC fees altogether. Also, no sales tax in OR so didn't have to pay any of that for mine.

Agreed though, Lage stuff will get you. I'm probably $4-5k into Lage goodies for my M10.

One of my favorite things about having a MG is having others shoot and enjoy it.

My unit's M4s as we were leaving a training area at Schofield Barracks.  We had a bunch of rentals and a couple of those Bluebird busses.  A couple of the guys were taking them back to the armory to check them back in. It was the most expedient way to transport them at the time.
