You do, that's the lever I was referring to. You can get 4 to 5 rounds in with each pull of the ratchet.

Right on.  I'm going to give that a try tonight.  Thanks!

Were you going for FAL O, or RPK with that?

The first mag you run through should be a drum. 30s are easier to put in pouches.

1) Promag is shit tier. Better to set your money on fire.

2) Drums are stupid.

3) The D60 is particularly reliable and high quality so, less stupid.

4) Magpul makes dead nuts reliable 40 rounders.

I have a 50 rd Pro-Mag drum for my Glock.  Works great.  But then, I actually used it and didn't just regurgitate hive talk.

I don't care for drum magazines myself. Not practical. I Prefer standard 30 rounders. Since I run .300 BO as well as 5.56 to keep things separated and have "at a glance" identification of magazine caliber. I go with black P-MAGS for 5.56 and Lancer smoked grey for .300 blackout.

5.56 solid black

I do have an old 100 round Beta-C mag from years ago but I never use it. You can still buy them. I think they're over $250.

I've used enough to know what I'm saying. Also, having seen guns coming into a gun store, where my gunsmith friend worked, with a "my semi-auto doesn't work" complaints where getting rid of the shitty ProMag was the cure definitely left a strong impression.

Your experience only tells us you're lucky.

I bought some d60s and 40rd pmags during freedom week here in Ca. My buddy called me up while he was line at a gun shop and asked me if I wanted him to get me some promags and I told him “hell no, I’ll pass. Do they have magpul?”and he said they were out, so I ended up ordering them online. D60s are fun when ammo isn’t expensive.

Do they have a place in a defensive situation? hell yeah they do, imho. Is it easy to carry them around? Not unless you carry them in a man bag, wait, mag bag. Are they easy to load? Not really, but this is why I keep my mags loaded.

Or you could get a Promag drum*

*applies to shotgun drums only. I wouldn't touch a Promag rifle drum with a 10 foot pole.

In an AR I prefer 20 round mags.  30s are OK if I can't get 20s.  If 30 is too small, then the answer is belt fed

In my opinion, drums are best suited for pistol cartridges.  I really have no interest in a drink mag for an AR.  Maybe a.45 drum for a Thompson a 9mm drum on a Suomi.

20" chrome barrel, pinned FSB free float m-lok rail.  Bipod is from a VZ-26 and is mounted on a free spinning barrel band trapped between the flash hider and the small diameter shoulder behind it.  The wood furniture I made from scratch by laminating maple boards to appropriate thickness then dyed with leather die to look commie orange.  Handguard I mostly turned on a lathe, bored to slip over the handguard, milled a slot for the rail.  It's attached by m-lok nuts.  Butt stock I modeled after an RPK and other than boring the buffer tube hole, mostly contoured that by hand, then made a G10 buttplate and added an AK swivel.

AR-RPK.  Add the FRT-15 and steel case go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

My philosophy is a D60 is your primary contact mag and it should be backed up by magpul 40s. Both have proven to be perfectly reliable so why use older technology?

I was genuinely unaware of ProMag’s reputation till now. I got this rifle during the Plandemic and mags were in very short supply at the time. The bulk of mine are Duramag.

Is ProMag at least typically better quality than Duramag or did I really scrape the bottom of the barrel here? I figured the Made in the US and lifetime warranty at least gave them some credibility...

If you want some higher capacity mags than the standard 30rnds then pick up some Magpul 40rnders. They function flawlessly and are dirt cheap.

No. They dont look cool. They are bulky and hard to get next to posts and around doorjams.

And I have carried C-mags before and they are bulky, heavy and fragile and that is when you are in combat and someone else is paying for ammo and equipment.

I say they are fragile compared to Magpul 30 rounders. Have you ever had one fail?

Put a 30 in your rifle, one in left front pocket and one in back pocket.

90 rounds for around $35 and last forever.

Nice, but at $450 for 150rds, is it better than a Beta C-Mag at $300 for 100rds?

I like the individual sprocket p/r concept though, wonder if it's more reliable than the C-Mag?

Yeah, I remember the Marines tried them and found them unsuitable for the environment in Iraq, way too much dust and debris in day-to-day ops, let alone heavy combat in BUAs.

They're really reliable at the range, though.  So, maybe for LE?  But why do cops need 100rd drums?

And you're wrong...they do look cool!

I prefer to think the heavier more rounds option is great for around the house as I am a bug in type. Also think it's not a bad option for a break contact scenario where I am trying to get the fuck out with less time for reloads.

I'm guessing you are a bug out kind of guy where weight is a greater concern. Or forced marches. I don't participate in forced marches. Maybe hunting or hiking in the highlands?
