It's been known for a long time she faked the deep voice. She wanted to imitate Steve Jobs with her voice and the way she dressed. A lot of people were conned by her. Amanda Seyfried played her in a series. It was quite interesting to see how she got away with things for so long. |

I saw an earlier documentary about her. They talked about her voice and played some clips of her talking "normal". They interviewed her mentor and she said there was absolutely no way the Theranos Edison machine was capable of doing anything Holmes claimed. I don't understand how she conned so many people. |

Also did the psycho eyes, trying not to blink to look more intimidating. Sold an idea that people wanted to believe in but unfortunately not feasible. The longer you try to sell something that doesn’t work, the more marketing gimmicks you have to employ to keep money coming in. The entire time this scheme was being sold, there were medical professionals showing how and why it wouldn’t work while the media kept giving it positive press because they wanted to see a “strong” woman owning a big company. |

her diagnosis machine was like something from science fiction. small, give it a tiny bit of blood and it will diagnose hundreds if not thousands of issues. how any thinking person could invest money with her company without looking at what a current lab does and how blood analysis works and the amount of blood required for all the tests is simply staggering. its on a level of claiming you have a machine that will transmute lead into gold. and lots of very smart folks were deceived. and it brought in millions but was a very odd scam because of how detailed and complicated it was and how impossible it was for her to escape the consequences. |

One of my former GF’s interviewed for a job at Thernos and they made her sign an NDA before conducting the job interview. She was applying for a job working regulatory compliance and started asking about some of their FDA approval applications, and specifically wanted to know about some of their processes that didn’t line up with what she already knew about FDA clearance/approvals; they terminated the interview early and asked her to leave. They were seeking workers who were willing to perpetuate the scam rather than actually do anything that “worked”. Any of the former employees who try the whole “I had no idea!” explanation are flat-out lying, or they are stupid. |

Everybody is talking around the elephant in the room There are lots of folks who wanted to push the agenda that it was time for the Boss Girl to be in charge of a big tech company. To be brilliant. To create some new, cutting edge technology. She was in her 20s, blonde, and thin. So they pushed her out to the public without looking too closely at what she was selling. She was on the cover of every magazine. "She" is the CEO.

The Dropout is an excellent series that mostly sticks to the facts. Watch it. The areas where they departed from the facts are because they thought that even though true, their audience simply would not believe some of the more outrageous stuff. They actually toned down reality for the series. GirlBoss CEO was a big theme sort of thing around then. |

One of the darkest and deeply upsetting truths to come from The Dropout is the fact that chief chemist Ian Gibbons did die by suicide out of fear of having to tell the truth about Theranos in a court deposition. It's also true that Ian was fired for voicing concerns about the accuracy of the tech with multiple people — like board member Channing Robertson (the chemical engineering professor at Stanford).
