Perfect Strangers
At the start of the series the main character, Larry, lived alone in a large well furnished two bedroom apartment in downtown Chicago. He was a clerk at the retail shop below his apartment. He rarely worked, seemingly always had nights and weekends free. After a bunch of badgering he reluctantly let his cousin Balki move in with him.

He lived in a big, two story house in a good neighborhood on a single income with two teenagers. No way.

The thought just occurred to me....Other than Jed/Elly May Clampett the other kin on the Beverly Hillbillys were freeloaders.

Daisy May Moses (Granny) is Jed's mother-in-law.

Jethro Bodine is the son of Jed's cousin, Pearl Bodine.

How did Luke Skywalker afford a T16 as a part time farm hand working for his stepfather?

How does Peter Griffin support three kids in New England while working at a toy factory as a low level clerical employee?

That seems to be the trend with all modern sit-com's. Back in the 1950's and early 60's you had shows like the Honeymooners, Life of Riley, I'm Dicken's he's Fenster, and the Troubleshooters, just to name a few in which the protagonist actually worked a job requiring his hands living a blue-collar lifestyle. Keep in mind that since the late 60's to the present shows that attempt to show so-called "working people," are written by people who have no real idea what that involves. All the writers know is the propaganda and stereotypes of working people fostered by the left.  In those early shows the characters dealt with problems such as trying to stretch a food budget, or putting off buying a car because they couldn't afford one. Nowadays they just sit on a couch pissing and moaning about how hard life is. It's also why these shows don't do well in syndication, their humor is dated, and they are soon forgotten.

Probably bought it used and he seems handy enough to do his own maintenance.  Plenty of older teens have used cars they've scraped up money to buy.

At one point, I think when Peter crashed a helicopter in his backyard, Joe yelled out asking him how he affords these things.

Yup, they mentioned that once or twice.  My sister lived in NY and said she new people that were in a similar situation.

Gilligan's Island

Why were the Howell's going on some three hour tour on a crappy little boat which attracts the likes of a college professor and a farm girl?  They should have their own mega yacht that they could live on and sail around the world.

I always thought the Brady Bunch kind of made sense. Mike was obviously higher up in the firm, always working on big projects, major contracts across the country, government work, not drafting three bedroom houses and working up additions. They drove sensible cars, the house was nice and big, but each kid din't have their own rooms, Greg had to fix up the attic to get his own. I don't really know how much Alice set them back, but she got room and board so maybe not a whole lot. An older spinster would probably be a bargain in fact.

Tommy was private dick who had free run of an oceanside estate and a company car. I know he was kind of security and manservant for the owner but, those are some sharp digs for a man with that job title.
