In that 150$ area, the Lamy 2000 and Pelikan 200 series pens are great values.

The Lamy still bears a nice gold nib and is a piston filler.
The Pelikan these days has a steel nib, but it's a good one... and again, a piston filler.

This is an item you want to buy from a pawn shop.

Your $150 will go a lot farther.

I figured as much, and I'm guessing I'd get nauseous if I knew the price lol.

I can't for the life of me fathom buying an expensive pen.

I prefer to type stuff and a paper mate works for everything else.

I started with a Pilot Metropolitan.
Then I got some Gully Chinese pens. Quality was not job 1.
Then I got a couple more Pilots.
Then I bought some Chinese Jinhao's. (Still hadn't learned my lesson.)
My new Favorite is a Lamy Safari.
Now I'm looking for better quality over low price. Gouletpens.com has inks, and fillers and cleaners and stuff. Almost as bad as BRD.

You can buy cheap, at Amazon. Learn with them, if you will. Then buy quality. Appreciate the difference. JMHO.

Neat.  $8 and change for three pack.  I'll try these out.

I prefer to use Uniball Signo 207 .5mm, but everyone steals them.  Clients, kids, vendors, they're always walking off.  For that reason, I refuse to have a pen around that's more than $10.  My mother offered me her Mont Blanc when she retired and I told her to keep it.  I keep Uniballs in my office and $0.87 promo pens elsewhere in the office.

My fountain pens are kept where they are not within easy reach of someone coming into my office to talk to me or ask questions.
I keep the cheap bics that the company provides sitting out for them

Although I did get a good laugh out of watching the owner of the company try to use my fountain pen when he was in my office one day

OK, I'm playing the grammar Nazi card on this one because it's a big pet peeve of mine and it's abused all the time.
"150" is not a range, it is a number or a value. A range is the area of variation between upper and lower limits on a particular scale:
"the cost is thought to be in the range of $1-5 million a day".
End of lesson.

I have over 200 fountain pens, and just bought a lathe and a mill to start making my own - so it's safe to say that I'm "in to" them :)

I strongly recommend Franklin-Christoph in your price range. If you like the aesthetic of the Diplomat, check out the Model 28 Libertas.

Others to consider: Pilot Vanishing Point, and the Pilot Falcon. Both are great pens for what they are and it in your price range... but I think the Libertas is a better all-around pen, especially if you're not going to be buying a bunch.

Makes me laugh that Namiki is a Pilot company.

I spent the better part of several hours searching for aftermarket pistons,  not converters,  to make piston pens.
When you start making them, what type of fill are you planning?
I've been researching lathes and mills too, I think I'm going to jump in soon, I need a new hobby.

My first ones will be C/C (cartridge/converter), because decent nibs already come with the correct attachments for that in the writing unit. That will likely be followed closely by eyedropper, then probably syringe, and finally vacuum fillers.

It's not bad, but you gotta write quickly.  No leaving the pen on the paper unless you want a puddle.

It requires pretty much zero pressure, which is kinda neat.

And yes, my penmanship isn't very good.  If it got any worse, I'd have to become a physician.
