Great buddy of mine is about the most stereotypical black man you’ve ever met.

Got the Memphis Pyramid tattooed on him back when the Grizzlies played there before it was a Bass Pro.

I love to bust his balls about his sweet “Bass Pro tattoo.”

Saw the ones in Tikal as well when we were there on a medical mission trip.

I remember coming down from the top thinking “damn this is steep and don’t fall or you will die in a third world country.”

Very impressive though

I'd rather see Tut's treasures. Almost every single egyptian pyramid and tomb had already been looted by the ancient egyptians themselves during the anarchy periods when the pharaohs lost control to the priests.

I didn't think the mask would really impress me.  It did.

Soon the Grand Egyptian Museum will open just a short distance from the Giza pyramids, with the full Tut collection on display.  I saw it under construction, they guessed it may open this year so I'd estimate only another 4-5 years.

I climbed that with a hangover.  Do not recommend.   (with a hangover anyway....)

And if you go, avoid the "safety rope", the stairs are ten times slicker there than at the edges.

The little cafe outside the ticket booth wasn't bad.  Very friendly people.

The pyramids in Egypt are neat but the temples are where it's at.  The scale and complexity of Karnak blew me away, but the real gems IMO are Dendera and Abydos, with an honorable mentions to Edfu, Kom Ombo, and Philae.  The restoration of the ceilings at Dendera gives a hint at the incredible colors that would've been present originally.  One day I will steal a cat from Philae.

El Castillo at Chicken Itza back in the early 80's when you still climb the stairs to the top and go in a tunnel in the interior to view a jaguar statue with jade inlay. It is steep with tiny steps so I imagine at least a few people got messed up falling back down.

That would have been legit.  It's been closed off for a few years now since some dumbass chick fell off a few years ago.

Yes. Giza, Tikal, Lamanai, Belmopan.  Teotihuacan, etc.

Also The Needle on Rarotonga, ruins on Tongatapu, Angkor complex, and Nan Midol on Pohnpei.  I’m sure there others I’ve forgotten.

Lesson: wanna be remembered do it with stone.
