My best defense is a strong offense.

Amped up naked hillbilly, possibility with morning wood, wearing camo muck boots, and either P226 or RECCE AR.

No, they're not.
Pistol grip also lets you hold the weapon one-handed more easily (to use the phone, open a door, etc.)

Any shot from a firearm is lethal force.
Lethal force = lethal force.

Legit HD shootings shouldn't end up in front of a jury.

in the house?

pistol is easier to maneuver than a rifle.  If you can't hit across the room with a pistol, you probably can't get the rifle from under the bed where you are hiding it.

Why not both?

My battleplan is to charge out the bedroom with my 300blk AR pistol, light on but at the low ready so as I close distance with the enemy he can see me, butt naked, uplit in all my glory, with my tiny little ding dong flopping around like a baby carrot hanging from a string.

Distract, close distance, engage.

To the OP's credit, at least he should be able to hit his intended target from across the room with a Mini-14.

Any further than that and it's a dice roll.

Yes he did and that has changed my point of view, significantly, on home defense weapon choices.  Having someone give first hand info and what can really happen physically to you from a self defense shooting is invaluable.  I just use a 19 with a light, +2 mag, HST's and RMR.  Will still be loud but not destructive to my hearing, yet should still get the job done nicely.

A serious answer?  Simple.

Everybody wants to study the ballistics of SBR's, pistols, shotguns, calibers, slugs, buckshot, ordinance, etc.

In YOUR house do you really think moving a stocked rifle with a can to be your best choice?  Do you have any 50 yd hallways?  What weapon will give you the best chance of multiple hits on multiple targets at close range?  Keep it simple.  A pistol and a light. Choose something small with decent capacity that you can stick around a corner and still come up with a good hit. Keep it simple.

Like all things in life, you're buying time.  No tactical bullshit, you're just buying time.

Are you suggesting just sticking the pistol around the corner and blindly shooting?

I am anxiously awaiting the return of my K from Dead Air. I had to send it in after discovering a pretty severe alignment issue. Fucker was throwing my shots high and left about 4” at something like 10 yards.

In the meantime, I ordered a jig to dimple my FN CHF 8.5” 300 barrel that came with my PSA upper so I can install a Geissele gas block and a DDC MK4 I just snagged on the EE for a good price. I have a Surefire scout mini that will reside on it.

My plan is to have it in a Hornady wall safe in my closet. My 2 year old sleeps with my every night so it’s realistically the only way to store it nearby. It’s built on a PSA Approval-15 lower with an SBA3 brace.

If it ever gets used, the media might have a field day over the rollmark what with its implication of the shameless disregard this individual has demonstrated toward the NFA process for possessing a short barrel rifle by making use of a loophole in the language!

I’ll be excited when it is up and running.

I've never been in a shootout but I've seen what happens when you introduce the stress of competition. People who are normally a good shot with a pistol will fail miserably to hit targets at across the room distances with a pistol. They rush shots, forgetting they have sights, fail to see targets completely and fumble reloads like a they're 12 beers in to a good time. Training and experience corrects all that but I imagine the stress of an actual SD situation in your home is far more stressful than a competition.

Training is key but not everyone can or will attend enough training to overcome the degradation of skills that's likely to occur. When it come's to getting hits, even at close range, it's easier with a rifle.
