Just how bad are they going to get hit by Dorian? Looks like they are going to get absolutely clobbered. Are they going to get hit harder than Puerto Rico did not too long back? Curious from those in the know.

The Bahamas are a mess, I feel bad for the good folks that live there. As for the scum, this is just another opportunity to scam folks....if they survive.

Bad, some of those Islands are barely above sea level. Many of the homes are
concrete and will survive, the flooding will be bad.

The northern islands are getting wrecked.  Eleuthera will get some damage.  South of that should be better.

There has been a lot of new construction in the past 10 years. Most of it is built to a high standard. Unfortunately this is mostly vacation homes for the wealthy. Places like Marsh Harbor and Northwest through the rest of Abacos has a lot of Bahamians living in homes that will not survive a cat 4-5. Going to be a mess. Freeport was devastated a few years ago. So much corruption in the Bahamian government the recovery is going to be another disaster. Hope they are getting people out of the way. Pray for a turn north but not looking good.

We flew down the next day after Floyd cleared, could only do a couple fly bys of the area. Both Marsh and Treasure runways were still under a couple feet of water.

Good luck to them.

Yeah, that's bad. We're talking possible structural collapse of large, well built buildings.

The Bahamas will not be a vacation destination for at least a year to come. And it'll be more years before it's well recovered.

Since they are a Commonwealth Realm does that mean that the Brits and the other commonwealth countries (realms) will finance all the rebuild corruption?

Part are owned by foreign corporations that have insurance. Other properties are owned by very rich people.
The rest will come from charities that will steal most of what is donated.

It will be bad but it happened before. Hurricane Floyd. Wiped some places completely clean as if a giant blade scrapped it down to the bare dirt.

I lived on Abaco for 13 years. Second home owners will be whinnying assholes. Local Bahamians will get busy and move shit out of the way on roads so things can get done.

Guy I worked for and helped with the house build projects had the canal house engineered for a 200 mph wind load. 2 generators. Water maker. 200 gallons fuel.
They should be in ok..shape. There will be damage though.

The beach house is fucked...not surprised if it gets a couple million in damage or more.

Is that old gnus, or was the 145 mph old?

The lower section of green turtle is completely under water.

Severe damage to the main town.

No word on the upper part of the island or green turtle club.

I honestly fear my friends there might be dead.

Someone said they had a house with a 40' elevation on GTC for use.
Bet they hightailed it to higher elevation.

GTC settlement is low. was wiped out in 30's hurricane, probably not good.

Problem is the second part.

Highest parts of these islands are only 10-20 feet above sea level for the most part.

Green turtle does have one peak. The school is built on top of it, about 100 feet above sea level. That’s the bunker.

Going out of the main green turtle settlement, you have about a 100 foot hill or so.  On the very peak of it you have the fire station (new, built in 2015) the school, and the telecommunications office.

They’re all brick and concrete buildings.  There’s a few houses around then that would be fairly safe havens too from flooding.

The rest of the island is fairly flat.

Near the green turtle club, you have the bluff house which is an old concrete house that is literally on the bluff about 40 feet up.  So they’re probably using that as a safe haven too.

All the rest of the houses are +/- 10 feet above sea level. The settlement is about 4 feet above sea level if I remember right. Maybe 5.

sounds like Garbanzo was cut in the usual place, but if Sea Spray is "gone" it must have been a bigger cut than last time

Some videos are coming out of Marsh Harbor. Flooding over the tops of vehicles roofs ripped off. So even if you are above
the water you are still exposed.

It is a testimony to technology that they are able to get video out of there.

And another thing I think sucks bad, maybe or maybe not others wont, is this-

Sadly, we may lose the Bahama Parrot today.
By subjecting these animals to the tragedy of the commons, the state has reduced their numbers to unstable lows. The few that remain may not survive Dorian.
