I didn’t travel but I did the guess your age, height/weight, birth month for 2 years in the summer at local fairs in my area when I was in high school. I got paid a dollar over minimum wage at the time. The game is stacked against you. There is a red and white striped pole with 1 ft alternating stripes behind you. Everything else is within a range that is advantageous to the trained carnie. Remember though you are buying your own crappy prize you don’t get your money back. They stuffed animal you “won” costs the fair .50 and you just paid $5.00

I remember being a 7 year old child getting on a Ferris wheel at the Del Mar Fair and gazing into the eyes and toothless maw of the carnie “operator”. I remember suddenly questioning the safety of the ride and that some people make bad choices to get to where they are. Carnies are a good life lesson for kids.

I think ideally you would own a food truck or portable rides and could potentially do pretty well. Most of the teenagers working the games and rides and food carts and shit don't last long.
I worked for a catering company that did carnival games in vegas for 1 day. Fuck that. |

My high-school football team tasked us players to clean the local fairgrounds before our 2 a days summer conditioning/practices to raise money for the program.
I will never step foot on a Carny assembled ride, nor let my wife or daughter. The stuff we found in the early mornings while the Carny degenerates were sleeping off their meth was disturbing. Nuts, bolts, washers, etc that fell off of rides every damn morning. Not to mention hydraulic leaks, busted hydraulic lines replaced by duct taped hydraulic lines, etc. Used Needles etc were also everyday finds. Enjoy your required drug habit and STD if you go to work with them OP. |
