OP must watch the History Guy on YT. He just did a video about Station Wagons.
A Nostalgic History of the Station Wagon |

Fold the rear seat down and 2 real Jet Ski's would fit comfortably, hatch closed and all.
65 Chevy was the Lake Assault Vehicle, the 71 was the go to town one. |

My DD is a 3 series wagon. AWD, turbo, long roof, what’s not to love? My family hates it and calls it the silver turd. They have no taste.

Some wagons are very cool, the 1986 Chevy my mom had was not one of those. I had a lot of nicknames for it, none of them complementary.

As a kid I thought they were the stupidest thing around. Then I saw a friend of my dads load some super heavy stuff in the back without having to heave it up onto a tailgate because it was at a lower height. That same guy had a big ass remote control Corsair plane loaded in there in a different visit and I began to see how they were actually the predecessor of SUV’s.
No sport but hell none of them are now. |

We have had 3 Outbacks, and will probably get another when the ‘17 we have now is up for replacement in 4or 5 years. Absolutely love them. One of my first cars in high school growing up in MN was an old Subaru wagon. I forget the model, but it was an actual 4x4 with a transfer case and low range. Next car was a maybe ‘85 or so AMC Eagle. That car was awesome, and way ahead of it’s time. In-line 6 that got surprisingly good mileage, power everything, leather, 4wd, and a 5 speed manual all in a wagon. I really loved that car.
Road trips as a kid were always done looking backwards from the third row rear facing jump seats. Loved the big GM wagons from the 70s and 80s. |
|
V8, Positraction, 4X4, Overdrive... and BIG fuel tank..
A Suburban will get ya there and back. |
|
In our '73 Plymouth wagon you could fold down all the seats and put a 4X8 sheet of plywood in, and close the tailgate. Hell, you can't even fit a 4X8 sheet in most pickup trucks these days...

I love me some wagons.
The fucking epa killed them. Cafe retardation ruined them. A manufacturer can build a “truck” but would be penalized for building a more fuel efficient wagon/car. Best wagon I’ve ever had was a 2003 Volkswagen Passat. Not a common car as it was a Stick shift with a six cylinder. I would like to get a Subaru wagon but I need a truck bed. |

Thread is relevant to my interests! Really enjoyed the 70's riding in the rumble seat facing backwards and now really like the look and performance of the Euro sport wagons.

I’ve always wanted a Caprice wagon from the 90’s. Sadly others like them also and the prices are just too high. |

0-60 in the low 3s, tops out close to 200mph, 680hp and can push 30mpg+ in mixed driving. Hauls 5 plus the pups. Attached File Attached File Attached File |

Quoted: I also bemoan the death of the station wagon, and am actively considering one for my next vehicle. I actually thought the most recent generation of the Buick station wagon seemed pretty neat, but they decided to discontinue it after it didn't sell well (because they didn't advertise it at all). View Quote That Buick was a very nice car My local gm dealer had a loaded one that was very nice and pretty affordable. |

Back in the late 50's, my Mom owned a 55 Ford two-door wagon that we made many trips to visit relatives in CA, from our home in SW OK. Driving across Route 66 back then was a real adventure.
My first car was a 57 Chevy Handyman two-door wagon, with 283"/three on the tree. I owned a bunch of Tri-Five Chevys from 1968-1999. When my first wife and I got married, in 1974, we owned a really nice 55 Chevy Handyman two-door wagon, with 235" six and three on the tree, with factory overdrive. Other wagons owned were a 57 Chevy Sedan Delivery, four Nomads (55,56,57 and a 58), 58 Chevy Sedan Delivery, 59 Chevy Brookwood two-door wagon and a 1995 Honda Accord wagon (very uncommon, also). My 1957 Chevy Nomad, with 340hp/327 and Muncie 4spd: Attached File |

I would love an old wagon. My turbo minivan is a family favorite which would be hard to supplant though.

The station wagon we bought the wife is cool for sure. 6 seats, 4 of them heated and cooled. Awesome radio. Glass roof. Shitload of room. And it makes 400 hp, and runs low 13s in the 1/4.
I definitely dig station wagons. |

Quoted: James Arness used to pull up on 101 in Corona Del Mar at the All American Grocery store I worked at and fill his Buick Station Wagon up for a surf safari to Mexico. He was a big guy and looked like he’d been in the sun too long. I've always felt like sedans were like crew cab pickups with tiny beds that had one of those stupid fiberglass tonneau covers on them.
When I was a single dude, I bought a station wagon. Because it was more useful than a sedan and I already had a truck. |

Quoted: Dad bought a '55 Ford wagon and was instantly hooked. 30 years later I got a '85 Subaru 1800 wagon, 4WD, 5 speed manual transmission with 2 speed transfer case. Wish they still made them, they were great little cars, especially in the snow. https://i.pinimg.com/736x/2b/ed/40/2bed4055cd5ec86fe982fb2e0a57fdb9--leone-subaru-outback.jpg View Quote Yummy. I was BUMMED when I couldn't get a transfer case in my turbo Outback with manual transmission. Didn't know such a thing kind of existed before. I had seen that only AUS models have transfer cases now or something. |

My first decent car was a 1964 Fairlane wagon. 260 V8 with 3 in-the-tree. Loaded down with Stratocasters and Bassman amps. High school was great.

Quoted: @killingmachine123 turbo minivan?! Tell us more View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: I would love an old wagon. My turbo minivan is a family favorite which would be hard to supplant though. In 89 and 90, chrysler offered the 2.5 turbo with either their performance manual trans, or the three speed auto trans. This was mainly to tide them over until v6 production could meet demand. Although the 4cyl turbo engine pit up better numbers and got better gas mileage. If I'm cruising along with the ac off at around 65mph, I get 25 to 28mpg in mine. I now have a slightly larger turbo, and better I take and exhaust Manifold. It's awesome. My wife was mad I brought it home. Now she loves it and wishes I would let her drive it year round. |

If I became fabulously wealthy tomorrow, my first two vehicle purchases would be wagons. Mercedes E63S and an Audi RS6 Avant.
