I have been in massive cave systems that start out looking like that.
|
|
I’d have already tried to open that up, but then again I really really would love to own a cave.

Any updates yet?! WE WANNA KNOW!!!
Get a metal detector too, who knows what could be down there or around it too. Pretty neat honestly. |

Just stick your arm in there and see if you can feel anything. If you don't get bitten, stabbed or abducted by aliens, it's good to go. Might be a good bugout bag/prep staging location.

Apparently you've moved to middle TN, where Karst geology is the norm.
Sinkholes are everywhere here. |

If you find a cave system, don't inform your insurance or the city.

Quoted: Looks like the big boulders were used to try to plug the hole. I'm sure it's very tempting to remove the boulders and debris and see what's down there. Just be sure to have a trained TV show dog who can run and tell somebody that you are "stuck in the well". Hopefully you'll be rescued within 30 minutes and it won't have to be continued on the next episode. Or... Maybe it's another "Mel's Hole". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mel View Quote Apparently people believe the stupidest damned things…. Even when the “proofing” method itself (fishing line) would be impossible even if the original claim itself were true…. |

What is the local geology? Is it predominantly limestone? If so, it could an entrance to a cave system.

Looking at that pic that is not the original size hole.
The hole was much much larger . Someone in the past closed that up to keep something in . |

Hell yeah you got a used oil hole! No more lugging it to the dump after oil changes.
