View Quote It was surprisingly empty, plenty of camp spots, barely any boats on the lake. You could have a lot of water all to yourself. |

View Quote Yeah, from where I am if you go 15 minutes west you're in corn fields. Takes about an hour if you go south. |

My family is from Macedonia and spread out all around the Henderson area. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and left Illinois in 1973.
Went back to Southern Illinois two years ago for work for a week and it was weird. I had forgotten how flat it was and full of corn. |

I'm from Southern Illinois. It's a damn shame the rest of IL has to live under Cook County rule.

Quoted: Real Illinois listens to Cardinal baseball. There, I said it. View Quote Attached File With that said, I don't care much for baseball, and when I do watch it or play it on a game, I prefer the Sox over the Cubs anyway. |

Im in Kane, so lemme run to DeKalb real quick before that happens . Holy shit, you cross the county line into Cook and everything gets more expensive. Fucking stupid. Cook also has an excise tax on centerfire cartridges on top of everything else. |

Dad had a buddy from downstate Illinois. His hatred of Chicago politics and how they ruled the state was white hot.
He was as country boy redneck as he could be. |

I'll give you 24 hours before I fire up my weather machine I have family that lives in the suburbs and I basically refuse to visit anymore. I've been up there enough to see the sights and have no desire to ever visit Chicago area again. |

Southern Illinois here.
People seem to think Illinois is anti-gun/ can't own a gun and that couldn't be further from the truth. On any giving Sunday my church has enough guns in it to fend off a small army. |

I have a friend who lives in the city, I go to visit him one or twice a year. It's fun for an evening but I could never live there. |

Youin’s know I spent half my childhood in Little Egypt?
The other half north of I-80. I-57 million mile club member. Thanks for all the photos. |

Quoted: There are some very nice scenic roads along the Mississippi. Pretty country over by Galena. View Quote That is a gorgeous area. For a minute, you forget you're still in ILL while you're there. Southern IL in the Shawnee National Forest is supposed to be what the whole state looked like before we came along with strip malls and parking lots. It's like the forest primeval in spots. Very cool. |

Cairo is way, way, way, too close to the Kentucky/Missouri border! We need to move that bridge SOUTH about another 1/4 mile!

OP, sorry for your loss, meant to say that in first post.
I was born on the southside of Chicago long ago. Hence the screen name. Was raised in an orphanage by an old blues musician, no wait, that was a movie. 33rd and Normal, grew up a couple blocks from Hizzoner Richard J. Daley. Lived there, Cicero, Harvey, Joliet area. Downstate to Williamson County where I lived with grandparents in a very small town. Joined the Air Force to see the world and got sent to Rantoul. I know a bit about Illinois. |

The bustling metropolis of Pittsburg my friend. :)
Granddad was a coal miner. Not to be confused with Metropolis, Illinois where I also spent time. Attached File Generations of my family buried in Creal Springs. |

We have homes in both parts of the state……
South subs of Chicagoland. Just a bit north of I-80. There’s still a bit of beans and corn about a mile away. Our refuge about 30 mins south of Effingham. Spend most weekends and long holidays there for now. Will be down there permanently in about 8yrsish Attached File Spent part of the 4th relaxing….. |

My grandparents lived outside Houston, I always like Missouri when we drove through. Maybe I'll move down there.

Grew up in chicago and left as soon as I could. Moved to lisle, then romeoville then onto the house we've been in for 21 years now.
IL is ruled by crook county. We need an electoral system in this state. Each county gets a vote. That would end crook county's dominance. |
