TBH.. im betting some of the SOC's on the devices were probably trying to send secret data back to china (unbeknownst to the folks who were doing the experiment). LOL

Regardless of how the election really went, a significant number of people voted for this.

Too bad they aren’t a minority or tranny hobby group. The government would apologize and replace their balloon ten fold.
Since they are a bunch of white guys, they’ll probably be charged $400,000 for the missile used. |

So how much helium or hydrogen would this take? Asking for a friend

Air Force will probably give themselves a medal for it. |

Buy one of these from Amazon.
Attached File And attach a few of these to it. Attached File Launch at night and wait for the show to begin. ETA: In Minecraft. |

I'm a little concerned that folks are floating balloons or whatever near the cruising altitude of passenger jets. But I have to have some stupid fucking license to fly a quad copter.

Quoted: hows that work exactly?? objects detected, alert was sent, briefings were given, jets scrambled, pilots acquired target, clearance was given and missiles launched...and not one person in that chain paused briefly to question or confirm the target was or was not a commonly purchased balloon... sounds to me like the gov owes the club a harmless balloon and perhaps needs to ratchet back the panic attacks. Quoted: The story would be hilarious dubbed into a Hitler Downfall rant video. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/pR5q0ajW8Ko/hqdefault.jpg Hitler: You mean to tell me we scrambled 50% of our entire flying arsenal to shoot down a 15$ hobby balloon. Well they're going to have to pay for this. The missile alone cost over 400,000 dollars. I want those criminals locked up and sued to oblivion. There's got to be a law against flying balloons like that. Officer: No sir. We checked and it's perfectly legal to fly those type of balloons. Also sir, they are reporting that they also intend to sue us for the cost to replace the balloon. They claim to have the receipts for nearly 87 dollars for all of the parts that was attached to it. So they launched a ballon with a payload the size of three school buses? And it was tracked from China, no less?
Doubtful |

As much as I hate Biden I will state the unpopular opinion here that there is a ton of Monday morning quarterbacking going on complaining about shootdowns 2 and later being a waste of taxpayer money.
There is plenty about Biden to be angry about, but if we had a Republican in office and even if they shot down the first balloon before it went over CONUS, I could easily see them taking the same course and shooting down 2 and later. |

View Quote Agreed. For folks bemoaning the loss of the $400K 'Winder - think of it this way: the crew got live fire training out of it and it was a good operational T&E, which has value, so it's not a total loss. Chalk it up to the training budget and carry on, folks. |

But why a $400,000 missile? From a $150 Million stealth interceptor? Heck, in 1975 McDonnell Douglas did a time-to-altitude record setting with an F15 that went to 98,000 feet. 20 mm cannon would be a modest cost -- $25 a round?
BBBbbbrrr ... couple hundred bucks. |

So, when do the Chinese release a couple thousand of these? If they do we'll be fresh out of ATA missiles before the Taiwanese invasion begins.

Seems dangerous. Maybe they should be limited to 10rd magazines, for the children?

Who remembers the "operation mayhem" posts of the past..
Would be interesting to have a whole bunch of these released at the same time from all over the continent to do their thing. |

does shooting down civiliar aircraft by the US Gov violate the Posse Comitatus Act?

This has been one of the better diversions the left has created.
What is really going on that these balloons are diverting people's attention? |

I'm not buying this story. Those things are tiny. Hard to find, hard to see and obviously not carrying jack shit.
