Or maybe he went to a catholic mass on Ash Wednesday.

Well, for one thing, it is still there. It should be gone, perhaps soon. Guillotined would be a nice fashionable touch.

And Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, etc..

The Israelis are no strangers to that game. They supported Hamas in 1987 as a counter-weight to the PLO and have taken steps until recently to ensure they remained in power in Gaza, thus weakening Fatah/Palestinian Authority.

They supported various nasty factions in the Syrian civil war, keeping Assad and Iran tied up fighting for survival and Hezzbollah hard at work outside Lebanon.

They've worked with the Kurds for years to irritate Iraq, Iran, Syria, and, depending on who the leader was, Turkey.

All those assasinations in Iran?  The Mossad used Kurds, Baluchi, Azerbaijani and Iranian dissidents.

01NOV2023 updated map of US Navy and Allies in the Mediterranean and Red Sea.

Trying some different layouts let me know what you think.

Corrections:
Removed TCG Yavuz (F240)  and TCG Heybeliada (F-511) from map due to departure from respectie groups for 100 ships parade will add back to groups when they are observed.
Added specific location for USS Carney and USS Thomas Hudner in Red Sea.
Added specific location of USS Mesa Verde as it is doing disaggregated ops in Eastern Mediterranean.
USS Laboon did not cross the straight of Gibraltar yesterday tracker code was for USS Philippine Sea.
Corrected minor typos

Updated all sources used

Changes since yesterday

IKE CSG should be arriving in the Eastern Mediterranean

Tonnerre "ARG" no imagery or updates though based off speed should be in the general vicinity of IKE CSG

Bataan ARG USS Bataan and USS Carter Hall Will be staying in the Red Sea for now along with Destroyers from the Ford CSG to include
USS Carney,
USS Thomas Hudner,
USS Roosevelt (currently in Rota Spain)

Side note, this leaves Ford CSG with one destroyer USS Rampage still with the group unless back filled by unassigned destroyers or ships from other task forces

Warships from the following countries underway or deployed in the Mediterranean currently.

Does not include vessels currently partaking in various naval exercises such as Dynamic Mariner 23 and Operations such as Operation Irini.

Very happy to hear more people both in Israel and the US are acquiring firearms.

That said for Israel, I hope tactics start to move into the modern era. “Israeli carry” method needs to go into the trash bin.

Additionally Israel needs more that its citizens purchasing pistols, it needs to mandate every household have a rifle and ammo.

Israel’s air force chief: Hamas made civilians part of this war.

Every target in Gaza struck by Israeli jets has been assessed in advance to minimise civilian deaths, the chief of staff of the air force has said in its highest-level defence of the scale of Palestinian casualties.

Brigadier General Eyal Greenbaum said every strike went through 11 or 12 stages of approval before it was authorised. He insisted that the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) were closely following rules of war that demand the rate of civilian deaths be proportional to the importance of the military target being struck.

Brigadier General Eyal Greenbaum said Israel stuck to rules of war

More than 8,000 people, more than half of them women and children, have been killed in Gaza so far, Hamas officials claim. Hamas regularly accuses Israel of committing “genocide”.

Greenbaum blamed Hamas for the civilian losses, saying it was making civilians part of its war machine.

“It’s not a campaign, it’s a war in Israel right now,” he said. “We insist on keeping the process of how we select targets. These are our values. Unfortunately, there are a lot of casualties. We try to avoid these casualties. But Hamas-Isis uses civilians to be part of this war. Despite this decision we try to avoid civilian casualties, but unfortunately sometimes in this war it happens.”

However, he admitted that this campaign “used more ammunition and struck more targets” than previous rounds of conflict between the two sides, and an IDF legal adviser said that the greater importance of the war changed how these calculations were made.

“The way that the IDF manages this very difficult consideration, this very tragic loss of civilian life, has not been changed. The mechanism has not changed,” the adviser said, but the need to confront the “greater threat” that resulted from the scale of Hamas’s attack — which struck deep into Israel for the first time — changed the balance.

“This war is fundamentally different from the rounds of hostilities we had with Hamas in the past,” he said. “The military advantage that arises from the imperatives of defending Israel is much clearer.”

Israel has pointed to the thousands of civilians killed in Mosul and other cities in Syria and Iraq as the United States, UK and other allied air forces helped Iraq drive out Islamic State.

Greenbaum said target lists in Gaza prepared before the conflict had been updated and re-checked before strikes were approved.

However, it is clear that the determination to go after Hamas’s tunnel network has created a greater danger to civilian buildings that sit on top of them.

The number of dead, especially when bodies still unaccounted for under the rubble are added in, is greater than in all previous rounds of fighting in Gaza put together.

That reflects the greater ambition for the military campaign laid down by the Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu — the complete eradication of Hamas.

Hamas is expendable, Hezbollah is too. Iran will continue to cultivate and train extremists to do their dirty work. The only way the problem gets solved is to eliminate the source but that will not likely happen with our current administration and their apparent apathy or secret alliance with Iran, Israel can't do that on their own either.

And none of those factors amount to anything as long as Hamas has a command structure and the tools to be able to pull of a 7 Oct massacre.

Israel has tried everything:  targeted killings of senior leaders; letting Qatar give them nearly a billion dollars over the past 10 years; increasing work permits to enter Israel; showing restraint when responding to rocket attacks; engaging in massive prisoner exchanges for captured soldiers, the list goes on.

Re:  world opinion-- a Jewish state founded in the shadows of pogroms in the Pale of Settlement and the industrial killing of 6 million in the Holocaust had better not care what limp-dick Europeans think of it.  There might be short-term consequences, but those are nothing compared  to what they will face if they don''t do the job right.  They had better 'grasp the nettle' and destroy Hamas's leaders and their capacity to conduct massacres.  If they don't, then Israel might as well not exist.

Once Hamas is killed ot at least crippled Israel other issues can and must be addresed.
Israel would do well to remind the Europeans how they responded to existential hreats not so long ago.
