IDF pulled out of Gaza originally in 2005? Is that right?
So, that's not that long ago. I'm guessing they have the "blueprint" for how to conduct security operations in Gaza after they have achieved their goals of eliminating Hamas. I imagine they would then transition to elections, that didn't include Hamas and be a bit more careful in the future not to let some radical group like Hamas come into Gaza and seize power again. I think Israel can have a fairly logical path and transition from war to peace and renewed relative stability again. It's just going to be very unpleasant for a few years now, but what else can Israel do? At least they have Iron Dome now and that's improving all the time. |

I've been wondering from day 1 if Hezbollah was pulling a page from Marshal Zhukov in this whole thing. Wait for Israel to commit fully to Hamas then strike. Israel seems to have been mitigating this. |

I've been wondering from day 1 if Hezbollah was pulling a page from Marshal Zhukov in this whole thing. Wait for Israel to commit fully to Hamas then strike. Israel seems to have been mitigating this. The problem with that approach is that there will be little possibility of operational surprise (since the terrain and direction of attack are pretty well known/obvious) and I'm sure the Izzys have a pretty competent defense-in-depth set up by now. |

They have the TTP necessary to reduce terror activities coming out of Gaza. A special ops unit of the Israeli Border Police, the Yamam is one of the main units doing anti-terrorist ops in the West Bank but prior to 2005 they did a lot of work in Gaza. Link to Vanity Fair article about them.. Samuel Katz wrote a book, Ghost Warriors, about them as well, Amazon link here.
