Did China actually ask the NBA to fire Daryl Morey? Does it matter?
China wants Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey canned — at least, that's true according to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. By Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang's recollection, though, the "Chinese government never posed this requirement."

While the NBA and China quibble over whether anyone made an outright request that Morey be fired, the details make little difference. The important thing is that the Chinese government would like Morey sacked over his pro-Hong Kong tweet, which started a firestorm this month and has mainly served to turn the American public against China...

...In the final assessment: Of course, China wants Morey fired! He had the guts to say what few of his contemporaries have said in the aftermath of his viral tweet. The government of China oppresses Hong Kong. It oppresses the Chinese people. It's trying, in ways indirect, to oppress the rest of us...

Some guy privately purchased 300 tickets to tonight's Nets vs Raptors game and is hosting hundreds of Chinese pro-Democracy activists to protest the NBA.

The masks is also a protest sign...and also likely to block the Chinese from doing facial recognition and murdering any possible relatives back home.

Guess Chinese networks refused to broadcast any opening night games because they learned there would be pro-HK protest fans in the stands. A bunch of fans are planning more protests involving crowds with HK shirts in future games so this isn't going away soon.

Chinese company Tencent did stream the Lakers game where a young fan was able pull a master class troll job on a camera man.

The reaction of the camera man freaking out not knowing how to pull away from the shot was hilarious.

And Shaq's take on the situation was refreshing. Wish NBA stars had the same balls.

Pretty much "We have freedom of speech and if you don't like, sorry, deal with it."

To somewhat quote Tucker Carlson: “Instead of exporting freedom to China, we have imported authoritarianism from it.”

Yep, Kissinger, Nixon, Clinton, Bush and Obama sold us and the Chinese and Taiwanese people down the river with “open commerce will bring democracy and human rights to China.”

BTW, add the tech companies to list of China flunkies. Most have contributed to China’s ability to monitor its citizens’ web and phone traffic and hunt them down. Cisco’s made custom routers for this purpose and most other tech companies bowed before Chine lusting after its 1 billion consumer market.

Yea I heard there's around 500-800 million NBA fans in China. More than the entire US population. They see more money to be made in China than the US. Sellouts...

They should move there to enjoy the people’s paradise.

This NBA kowtowing to China fiasco seems to only get worse by the moment.  It is all blatant prostitution to totalitarianism for money.  The amazing part is the more the NBA and its players try to explain their apologizing the worse they look.

Lets face it, our so called elites in this nation have long since cooperated and prostituted themselves to totalitarian china for years now at our nations expense.  They know the consequences and they don't care, so long as they get paid.

Won’t happen very soon but it would be poetic justice if years from now NBA viewership dropped so much it wasn’t worth playing in the states anymore and they had to play all of their games in China. Enjoy!

BTW, what is the new Nike slogan?  O yeah!

Believe in Something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”

I think this whole NBA fiasco is wonderful for opening the eyes of a lot of Americans that have no idea what's going on between the US/China in regards to censorship in business. Happy to also see South Park going both barrels on it too. I'm now running into friends saying stuff like "Now I understand why you were always complaining about Hollywood pandering to the Chinese...it's all making sense now." Like before they just saw it some lame conspiracy theory.

This pandering to China is sick and sad.

Once upon a time we as a country denounced the evils of communism.

Can you imagine a sports player embracing commies in the 80s.

We've sold out.

And it's even worse than selling out.

We've sold out to a country with horrible human rights violations, concentration camps for ethnic minorities, organ harvesting, etc..

Whatever happened to "Never Again" after WW2?
