When it became apparent FBHO was going to win, I also noticed a distinct "change". Mainly in the firearms/shooting hobbies. Public ranges that were mostly deserted before became three-ring circuses mid 2007 or so. Anyway, sorry for the little derail, but you are right. The FBHO era was the start of the current madness IMO. |

Generally speaking, the larger current event and political threads tend to do that. That's why I never go in those. In any discussion about a large event, policy, candidate, etc people are drawn to a binary choice. When challenged legitimately, either side, they get very defensive. |

Take your pick - Ukraine, Covid, Trump - Q made all of them exponentially worse for the tone of discussion. It was a problem looooong before the Q crap. It started around 2008 IIRC, when a lot of Ron Paul supporters descended on the site (presumably from Reddit or the chans). They are the ones who started the trends that we later saw with Q, Trump, COVID, etc. This drew in more people from the chans, who didn't really care about the site or guns, and just saw it as a playground that was fun to troll. They would shit in as many threads as they could, trying to make everything about the topic they were interested in (i.e. Ron Paul). They would attack anyone who didn't agree completely with them, accusing them of hating freedom, not loving America, etc. They would use childish insults against anyone who disagreed with them They were the people who started the whole "cuck" garbage, calling mainstream conservatives "cuckservatives" for not supporting Ron Paul They were the ones who wanted to be able to attack anyone who disagreed with them, but DEMANDED protection and "safe" threads in which nobody was allowed to criticize them Because they were not actually conservatives, but libertarians and Mobys, they didn't really give a shit about traditional conservative values, and would happily shit all over religion, not care about abortion, not really care that much about immigration, typically be fairly anti-military, etc ... but if you disagreed with them, they'd attack you for being un-American and hating freedom. Most of them probably didn't even own guns. ... sound familiar? (And staff/mods were slow to react to this, and for years we were not sure how to respond ... which let the problem fester and become entrenched. Definitely a failure on our part. ) |

Which is why the outcry over safe space threads for Trump and N_T's and insults being thrown back and forth was funny to me. It had already been before and some of the bitching about it, was being done by people that were in those Ron Paul safespaces. |

I was a Ron Paul voter, but I wasn't retarded about it. And I guess I wasn't here for those shenanigans, but I do recall the term 'moby.' Now you mention it, it does sound familiar. Questioning the legitimacy of others and their views is a long-standing thing, affecting many areas. Tuck the Cuck who wore a bow tie on CNN or whatever. Both sides of Ukraine accusing the others of betraying all conservative values. All sad.
To the thread topic, any update on @Smashy ? His last update was early June I think, and I've heard or seen nothing since.
